Prince Ki,
Senegal Overlord of Henle Studio
:green1:I am so happy to find this place. Ki, my Senegal wants me to get crackin' on his new (larger) cage/habitat/ & upgrade his toys to more chewable organic stuff like eucalyptus branches & leaves, one of the very cool things I just learned about by being here! ;)Grapevines, natural cork planks, cotton rope swings...I'm kicking myself here, for not knowing about this stuff for him...

This is Ki & his Port-a-Pet, originally made for pet bats...he loves it. errrr, .....Ki is spoiled.....
Since I'm an artist, Ki has been out A LOT with me in my studio, (most of the day) has been since he was a baby, he is pretty fearless, socialized, happy & full of personality. Now, I have a part-time job taking care of an autistic girl, so he is out maybe 4-5 hours a day (only, lol). This is why he is getting a new larger cage, because he has to spend time alone (which he's not used to). I'm hoping new toys and more space to explore, branches & cork slabs will keep him busy and happy til I get home.

My little family now that I've moved to St Paul is Ki, and Jasper, my tiny 7-lb Pom.

Ki & Jasper have been friends for about 5 years now, much to my surprise, Ki is the total boss of him. fyi, it took me a long time to allow them to even get near each other, but Jasper's nature finally won out- he is one of the mellowest, sweet-natured dogs I've ever met. They never actually touch but they certainly have quite the love relationship.

Does anyone else here have multiple pets that share a bond? I was a little afraid I'd get scolded after reading some opinions about parrots & pets.

Kiwi Loves :
Bowls, & flipping them over, Tiny dinosaurs & wailing on them, his bottlebrush tree, Sneaking into & hiding in my purse, China Prairie Micrograin & Psittacine Sprout mixes, pomegranates & poms (at least his friend Jasper), trying to steal Jaspers toys, snuggling under blankets,
sneaking under the covers with GONZO...

....Popping bubble-wrap, flying around our 16' ceiling artists loft, sugersnap peas, MAaaNGOos!, hopping onto visitors shoulders and startling them, cockatiels, stealing foam off my latte, heated perch, making confetti, Making sure the new phone book arrived safely (lol) ,sitting on my shoulder while I paint, sitting on my shoulder while I "visit the ladies room", and making embarrassing gurgly noises while I brush my teeth. and Yes, I am a humbled human.

Wow! Great pics! Pretty bird and dog. Welcome to the forums!

Thank you...I'm still getting used to how to navigate in a forum....I hope its ok to post so many pics. So nice to meet other parrot-lovers.

Artbird, love your pictures! Ki is beautiful and looks like quite a little character. Does he use his Portapet as a fort??? So cute!!!

Aw! He's a lovely fella! I'm always cautious allowing birds around four-legged predators. Especially if the wings are clipped and getting air time for escape is impossible. One snap and your pet bird is gone. Of course those little two-legged predators need watching, too.

I have 5 dogs and 2 cats. I'd be a lot more afraid of them getting bit then my sennie being harmed. Some dogs have a much higher prey drive. Mine have close to zero. Same with the cats. They avoid my sennie like the plague because she can be a little terrorist and chase them.

, Yes, I was SUPER careful, but, as it turns out, Ki IS flighted, he actually will zoom Jasper sometimes. I now have 5 years of watching them with each other, and I still do WATCH them, however, their relationship is pretty solid. Jasper is not a predatory dog, not a hunter, I have seen him interact with Ki, and even when Ki is stealing his toy away from him, all Jasper does is nudge him gently with his nose. I think it helps that on their first encounter, Ki nipped Jaspers nose. lol. Respect for the beak goes a long way to establish the pack order for Jasper. I have done a lot of research, and nothing can inform you more than experience. But, I guess someone looking in from the outside does not have the benefit of that experience, so it may seem alarming. Ki is my baby, my love, my heart, and I would never put him in danger. He always comes first. Jasper has accepted that, and knows his place, and he too, is a happy little dog. I hope this helps alleviate any concern. :-) nice to meet you!

;...LOL! I know-right? Ki is the RULER....lol It took me several weeks after I brought Jasper home, to even let them out together in the same room. I was pretty paranoid and thought I'd always have to keep them separate. I'd read a blog about a parrot owner who had many parrots, dogs, cats, and showed how to run a household and keep all safe... thanks...

Thanks for sharing :) And welcome to the forum. Heaps of knowledgeable peeps round here.
