hazards to the birds

Hi all future parrot owner here. One thing have seen here is a lot of things that are bad for the birds. Well my question is are they things you can't have period or just not in the vicinity of said bird. Say about stoves and candles(the scented kind) can you still have a bird say in your room just without those hazards?

To be safe we removed all scented candles from the house, as well as teflon pans~ self cleaning oven gets done on a nice day with windows open and bird outside...my bird isn't flighted so non-scented candles are ok, as well as my gas stove..he doesn't go in the kitchen~ also we don't use air freshener or pine scented cleaners~ orange peels and cloves in a pot of water on the stove works great!

No corn cob bedding in the cages, no liners in the oven, really careful with all cleaners too.

It is a constant battle for me to identify parrot hazards in the home. You just never know. Example being house plants. Best way is to educate yourself and keep list posted somewhere of the no no's.

I don't have any teflon, nor do I use air fresheners or scented candles. I try not to use candles at all in fact. I have a little rechargable lantern that I can use if the power is out. If I must use an aerosol can, like for Endust, I spray it onto the dusters outside.

Other humans, who are uneducated about birds, who enter your home, may be intentionally or unintentionally hazardous to your birds. In particular, be sure to educate each and every member of the household staff about what things are dangerous to parrots (which may not be inherently apparent, eg, avocado, Teflon, oven cleaners, pesticides, etc). Also, make sure you give very clear and firm directions about who is allowed to do what in the bird room. One new housekeeper I had, I noticed her trying to pick up dropped food pieces from Chilli's cage, off the bottom tray (hmm yes, amongst all that lovely poop) poking her fingers THROUGH the cage bars AND the bottom grate to try and reach the food because she could not abide any waste! I think she was going to put the soiled food BACK into Chilli's food bowl!
