Heat map / thermal images of birds, heat loss

Winter is coming to those of us in the north and I own a Thermal camera. I use it to check for hot spots in electrical panels etc. The following pictures show the hottest parts of a conure and probably most birds. This is where the most heat is lost to the environment.

I used a couple different settings and some I turned on inter-lay.

Hopefully this info is usefull to someone who has a chilly bird, take care of those heads and feet.

I had always knew that the claws and legs are a point of heat loss and the claw area can provide warmth back into their body when they perch on your skin, like your hands /fingers.

The Beak was a reminder as to that area of heat loss and also provides an excellent explanation of why they choose to place their beak into the feathers of their back. A combination of controlling heat loss and balance while sleeping.

You're welcome, I figured it would be interesting.

I wanted to lift his wings and get an under the wings shot, but he was so interested in the camera I had to put him on my hand just to get the picture from the back.

A cool reminder the human eye is only capable of resolving visible light while the spectrum is immense.

An interesting thing, if you look at the second to last shot you can see where he was perched and warmed up the comforter over the chair as I was changing settings; the residual heat from his body left over.

Doubtful. The tech is cheap and readily available. They would have been using it long ago if it were helpful

Galeriagilla I already took my camera back to work, locked up in my toolbox with all my other meters and diagnostic gear the same day, but I go back to work Wednesday night, I'll bring it home again and take some more to post Thursday morning or to put in the gallery.

Also Wakawaka chris-md is probably right, the birds feathers store in the heat so anything you could detect would be masked by their natural insulation.
