I am looking at a cage that can house two Conures some day.

I am buying the other bird first to see if they can or will get a long before I invest in a bigger cage for both. If they don't get a long I will have to rethink my cage design. If they become good buddies than one nice big cage would be great and a little cheaper. :-p

My question is the the cage I am looking at is 4 foot high and 4 foot long, but it's only 3 foot in depth. This cage would allow me to buy a packaged deal that would be cheaper than the cage I would buy which I made to be 3.5 foot high 3.5 foot long and 3.5 foot in depth.

Would the length and height make up for the depth? I know birds really only use the top portion of the cage more than the bottom. So that's why I was wondering if height really mattered? Not that I would make a cage super long and wide but only 1 foot high. :-p

The cage size sounds good to me... I mean, they would have a lot of space! And you can always try to encourage them to use different levels of the cage!

It sounds really good, like you said, they pretty much hang out "upstairs" , and that's a fairly roomy upstairs. Is it flat on top or rounded? I'm always in the market for an upgrade, and I've made up my mind I don't want a rounded top, because it decreases the amount of space when they hang out up top. I'd love to see a pic of that cage....?

My wife and I talked and we are hooked on this one bird at the pet store. Well I am! :-p
She was hooked on Patrick our little Pineapple that you see in my avatar. I am hooked to a little Cinnamon Conure. We want a Turquoise Conure, but like I said the right Bird will find you and I believe in that saying.

Right now I don't have the money for him, so I am praying he will be there by the end of November when I do have the money. My only issue is he was a feather plucker and he is really ratty looking because he was really upset for a while. He is starting to look better thanks to the pet store care but it's not enough and could be way better to get him back to full looking Cinnamon Conure Beauty! He plucked all his tail fathers out, but thankfully he is no longer doing that and they are growing back in.

What happened was he was brought in and put into a cage with another conure. They bounded and well, the pet store sold the other. He got really depressed after that and started tail feather plucking and the sort. So I am glad he/she is starting to look better.

My plan is to get a temporary cage that will work for introducing the two birds, plus the initial quarantine phase. I did this before with other animals so I hope the same applies. I will be switching cages for each bird for about three to four weeks. This way they it stops them from being so territorial with one cage or the other. Plus they pick up the smell of the other one. During this time they will each get one on one time out of the cage still, plus I will introduce them after the first week to supervised out of cage play with one another. If they start to like one another both will be moved to the BIG cage I have now and the temporary cage will become their new sleeping cage. :-p

Than after saving up my money we will buy the cage I want for them!

Hybrid Bird Cages : 48"H x 48"L x 36"D H3 finch cage, Parakeet cage, Cockatiel cage

I was looking at this cage, but I don't know if it would be BIG enough for two. We might even get the Turquoise Conure and have three birds in one cage, so i don't think this would work. (This would be a LONG time from now, possibly when I have enough money to buy the cage I want, thus allowing me to see if all three get along before I buy the cage. Plus I can get a bigger cage that they offer for a little more if need be :-)

With the cage I want the factory will allow me modifications, that way if I want I can use wire for the door instead of the acrylic. I have not decided what I want to do with that yet. As the top, right, and left are wire 3/4. I can add vents to the front door and the back of the cage. So it's still a toss up on what I want to do. I want the best package with all the feeders and the shelves, so that's why I will need to save. :-p Plus it would be nice to know that the birds liked one another before investing in a cage like that. If they don't end up getting a long than I will need to buy another flight cage and rethink the BIG cage. I really hope they like one another and I know the odds are really good that they will!

This is the cage we have now.

When we get two we are going to be spending a little more and get this cage so they will have even more space to play in while we save up for the nice cage, plus if they don't like one another some day we can use the divider. This cage will give them more length, but cut down on the depth by an inch from the cage we have now. The nicer cage that I want to save for will be a foot less in length, it will make up for it in depth.

Those cages by design are really nice cages and I have something similar! The first one would work if you want to get a third conure its fine. The second cage is too small for that! Those flight cages are ok! Depends on how those cages come apart for cleaning, mine is a huge pain to clean!!!! I would like to clean it more often then I do now but its very tiring and time consuming to reach way inside to clean the glass....Not a easy task!!! I just bought a window cleaning thing so we'll see how that works out....lol

The good thing with the cages is that the panels come off easily. When I was talking to the lady that sales them. Supposedly all the panels but the back on can be taken off and cleaned and put back.

If that's the case then go for it! I've thought about buying one from them for years....lol

If I only got two would that other cage work? I know bigger is always going to be better, but I am not super rich. :-p

I measured my cage and this cage is bigger and only 2in short of being as tall (Amazon has it listed as 50, but that's with base included). I thought my cage was MUCH bigger, it looks huge in person. :-p
I guess I should maybe cut back a bit and go with the cage I listed for just two Conures. If I do get another one I can always just get another cage and keep them close.

Also, I think I am wrong. I think they were talking about a pull out divider not removable panels. :-/ I do know the floor is removable like my other cage, and as long as you can reach back there (Not that long to be honest), than it's easy to wipe off the laminate back.

I didn't want to start a new thread being that this basically has all the info already in it.

As this thread implies we are going to be getting a new Cinnamon Conure. He is in rough shape right now, but I believe if we get him out of the pet store we can give him a WAY better home.

Not that he is being mistreated (I trust this pet store), he/she got depressed and started feather plucking and just looks really dull in terms of color. After we buy her we will be getting a free Vet visit so that is a good thing. When I hold him/her it's really lively and the eyes are really bright and the bird is alert. The poop likes fine as well, nothing really to alarm us.

Now we won't be getting him/her until the end of November (If he/she is still there). We will not have the money until than, so it's a good possibility he/she will be gone. I don't think that will happen being it's just ratty looking. I can put a deposit on him/her at the start of November so they can hold the bird, but until than it's up for grabs. I really hope it's not!

My question is, what can I do to give this guy a good start as our pet? I already am getting a bigger cage with a divider. This way I can use my old one as a quarantine cage. How long do you quarantine? What questions should I ask the Vet? I already switched my bird from a seed diet to a pellet one. So that would help I am sure with the new member to our family. If for some reason he is sold (I hope to a good family), than we will be getting a Turquoise Conure. So we will be getting a second bird regardless. I know some of you might wonder why I would want a ratty looking bird, but he/she is just so darn loving and cute despite the fact he/she looks a little ratty. I know with good care he/she can be the beautiful Cinnamon he/she can be!

Quarantine should be a minimum of 30 days and up to 90 days.

Healthy diet including fresh foods. Toys. Foraging toys. Bathes.

My first conure was one missing his stomach feathers, had a bald spot on the back of his head, was slightly blind, couldn't fly, couldn't grip normally (he'd often fall off his perch at night because while sleeping, he would keep moving his head further and further down until he'd lose ballance.... unless he was on a rope or rough perch.... occasionally see him sleeping with his head below perch level!), he mutilated, and he had health problems! Oh, and he wasn't tame/friendly, either!

And you are concerned about a ratty little conure? Pfft.... please! No concerns here! :D LOL

No, I am more concerned about him being bought before I can. :-(

Well, you could always talk to the store and say "Hey, I'm interested in this bird but I won't have the money until November" kind of thing and see where the conversation leads to?

I already did. :-p They said the only thing they can do is hold it at the start of November.

Ah, I see. Too bad! November is quite a ways away!

I'm partial to the bluest turquoise mutations myself, though! :)
