Hi guys! I signed up about a month ago but this is my first post and I'm still new. My name is Lena, I am a stay at home mom, I have 3 children, a hubby and a 4 year old Umbrella Cockatoo named Cookie who joined our family 8 months ago. Most of Cookie's past isn't so certain as I was told she lived with an elderly woman for about 3 years then given to someone else (for unknown reasons) for a few months until they decided to get rid of her, that is when she joined our family and her future became certain. I made a promise to myself and her that this would be her last home. But even though I made that decision with all my heart, it was a decision I made by myself.

This is the first Cockatoo I have ever had, so its been challenging and still is but I have done massive research, I am still learning and I now have enough experience to know that Cooking is indeed my 4th child lol. She is just as curious as a child, needs love, attention & supervision like a child, she throws tantrums like a child, she makes a mess like a child and this surprised me buts she even cries like a child (she mimics the cries of the other children lol). Cookie can say her name, "Hi", "Hello" & "Bye". She loves being pet, she's a ham and really likes to cuddle too but I am not all the way there yet, so we are still working on it. She loves me and my kids when hubby isn't around (I will post more about that later). The kids aren't allowed to touch her right now but they love to read books to her, sing all sorts of songs to her and dance with her. I love her personality (most of the time lol) and love watching her because she is very smart, sneaky and silly. She loves to flap her wings and act crazy and I love it haha, although her wings were cut pretty short before I got her and I am concerned about them growing back (I will post more about that later). Cookie has her own good sized house (I don't like calling them cages) with lots of toys(most of which I make myself) and two "around the house" perches. For the most part she is a happy parrot!:white1:

I am ever so grateful for stumbling across this site where I can share my experience, ask questions, get advice and have support & encouragement. :)

I feel kind of weird welcoming you to the forum since you've been here longer than me ;) but welcome! I just signed up the other day myself, because we just adopted a cockatiel and I've never owned one before. Hopefully you will find this forum to be as helpful as I have! :)

Welcome to the group!! There are many wonderful people here and its a great place to find many difference views on the same topic, but without all the bickering you find on other sites.

I look forward to hearing more of your story and about your feathered friend!!

Welcome! I am a stay at home mom too, but I feel overwhelmed with just one kid and a parrot. I think I could learn a few things from you! :)
