Hello, I live in Southern Indiana and am so enjoying our beautiful weather here. Has been said we're in for the warmest November on record and I'll take it. Am the proud parent of five children and nine grandchildren, and they like to visit their Mama they sometimes call "Ellie May". I do enjoy my critters which include three dogs, four Koi fish, two goldfish and two birds, a green female Quaker and a female Pearl Cockatiel. My Quaker still misses her best friend a blue quaker named Jimmy. After two years she still repeats his name "Jimmy, Jimmy Jimmy" over and over at times. I learned a hard lesson to keep strong clips on cage doors when my cages are outdoors as that's how we lost him. My birds are flighted and have their own room with windows that span two walls. Because my birds spend most of their time out of their cage I recently downsized from two large flight cages to a smaller double cage and they have adjusted well. This time of year and through the winter their room is full of plants. My green quaker, Oddie likes supervising cleaning day in the bird room. She follows me around saying "Gotta clean this mess up". She loves bath time on the floor in a shallow pan and Miss Pearl, my cockatiel enjoys a daily shower with the spray bottle. I look forward to learning from everyone out there and sharing my own tips and tricks as well :60:

Wow! Welcome! Am so sorry about jimmy! On a positive note, Quakers being so hardy, jimmy may have survived the transition!

Hello and welcome! I am so sorry about Jimmy, it is so hard to lose one, and also to watch the one left behind grieve.
I'm really happy you joined us and I look forward to hearing more about your feathered, furry and scaly babies:)

Hello, and welcome.

How touching about the way your Quaker still calls for his friend. The Rickeybird still calls for some passed-away relatives and pets. It used to cause my grandmother (may she rest in peace, too) to cross herself and do a rosary; she was sure he was seeing ghosts.

Glad you found us!

Thanks guys, I do miss Jimmy so much. I sat outside with Oddie securely in her cage off and on for 3 weeks. I called and Oddie squawked but no sign of Jimmy. I use to sing to him a song I remember from an old Spanky and Our Gang show when the gang was trying out for a radio talent show. another group in the talent show was 2 little girls who sang the song "Jimmy had a nickel". My Jimmy would sing along that one line of the song with me, he was so smart and love to sit with my husband and pick at his beard. I have read that quakers are in the wild here in the US as far north as New England so I choose to believe he is out there somewhere happy and flying free.

Welcome to the forums, so sorry about Jimmy. I agree with Flboy, it's quite possible and even likely that Jimmy found a new place to call home, he wouldn't be the first quaker to escape or to move in with friendly strangers. You are right about the wild colonies too, they continue to spread and to thrive.

I love the name Oddy for a quaker. We'd love to see pics of your Fids.

Welcome to the forums! I too hope Jimmy has found new friends in a wild flock.
