Hello Charliebrown & welcome, I love his name.
The red feathers is nothing new with eclectus males, sometimes they molt out but mostly they do grow back in. I have heard all sorts of reasons why this happens from disease to acquired color. One Avian Vet in Australia has a theory that a bird with discolored feathers has been in contact with PBFD (beak & feather disease) I really don't think so as i have had many young eclectus male & female with odd feathers & 10 yearrs later they are still healthy.
