Alohi, a baby sun conure.

Zoey, a 29 year old male congo African Grey.

Maui, GCC; RIP
Hello everyone!

I've always loved birds, specifically ravens. I adopted a pineapple GCC and he literally became the love of my life. He was the sweetest, most talkative little thing, and so tiny! I had named him Maui. He was with me every waking hour of every day. He was my world. Unfortunately my heater had broke in February and he had to be birdsat for a night, and the birdsitter's neglect and willful ignorance led to him being killed by her dog. I have honestly never gotten over him as I loved him more than anything, but I decided that I could leave the situation bitter or I could honor him and my love of birds.

I chose to not let it make me bitter. Since I have adopted a sun conure, who I named Alohi. I wasn't going to continue with the Hawaiian themed names, but Alohi's anklet said 'Aloha' and after Maui, it just felt right. Alohi means 'brilliant' in Hawaiian. He is a very clingy, happy go lucky conure, just as my Maui was. Though not as cuddly, he is a great little guy in his own respect. He blows kisses, says 'step up', and mimics my laugh. He's not quite a year old yet.

And last but not least is my CAG, Zoey. Zoey was a rehome from a bad situation. I've only had him for a few months but he makes great improvements every week. He's 29 and a cranky old fellow, but he's been an interesting and funny addition.

I have fortunately been blessed with a fiance who is just as bird crazy. I'm always on the look out for new ideas, tips, and help! I live and breathe birds. I look forward to getting to know everyone and their babies!

Welcome to the forum I'm sorry to hear about Maui but your other birds are beautiful

Welcome! My first baby, Tango, was killed right in front of me, by my dog, now 8 years ago! My part in the carelessness still haunts me!

CDavis,

Thanks so much! :orange:

Flboy,

I'm so sorry! It's so terrible to lose our babies, especially in such a horrible way. I had instructed her to not let him out of his cage, but she became intoxicated and let him out with a bird dog in the house. Not a day goes by that I don't wish I had just kept him at home. My protectiveness over him ended up killing him and I always feel guilty. I feel like the world's a little less bright without such a happy, innocent little soul. Most pain I've ever felt. But life goes on and all we can do is learn from our mistakes and make another bird's life as happy and healthy as possible. It's a very tough lesson to learn.

Welcome and be welcomed. You can see pics of Salty in my profile and folder. You have a beautiful flock.

CherylCali,

Thank you! :)

wrench13,

Salty is adorable (and perfect name)! He's an Amazon, correct? I've always loved their talking abilities. My Zoey talks up a crazy storm as well.

Welcome to the forums! I'm so sorry to hear about Maui, it's hard to get past a tragic loss like that. Maui must have been a special little guy, I know your happy memories comfort you.

Thanks for sharing photos of your beautiful flock! They look like a happy group!

Hi Nicole :) welcome! I'm very sorry to heat about Maui. That's hard to think about. Your Alohi and Zoey are gorgeous! I love Ravens too. I've only ever seen crows in person though. Looking forward to hearing more about your lovely birds!

I missed this thread, I am so sorry about Maui, but I love how you are honouring his memory by passing on the love to Alohi and Zoey. They are all very beautiful.

Allee,

Thank you. Maui was perfect in every way. He really cemented my love of them. I learned a lot with him and now I use it to make the lives of my flock better. They're both very healthy and happy babies :)

Ravensgryf,

Thank you. It was one of the hardest times of my life.
Thanks so much! They are both real characters and it's great fun having two talkers in the house. They compete to see who can make the most noise, lol. We have ravens here everywhere. I often watch them in my yard and throw out food for them. They're very large (bigger than my CAG, even).

Terry57,

Thank you! My house was so empty, and the large cage in my living room killed me to walk by every day. Birds really do make a home, at least for me and my family. We were so lost and I realized how many hours a day I spent tending to him. I felt like we were just meant to have birds. We'll likely add to our flock if we can make more room and an aviary that works well for us. I see so many people who buy greys, cockatoos, and similar with no clue how to take care of them properly. I'd love to help even just one more.

Welcome! You sound like one of us already.
What a horrific loss that must have been... yes, I agree, you're honoring him and his memory by offering your home to other birds now. We'll look forward to getting to know you! Your flock looks like a very happy family.

GaleriaGila,

There are no words for it :(

I look forward to getting to know everyone! I love seeing all the different species people have and their unique personalities. I'm always happy to find fellow bird people. They're very scarce where I'm from.

Hi Nicole and welcome. Sorry to hear about Maui. Thanks for sharing your story with us. Glad that you can honor his memory. Your flock us beautiful!
