Elmo - Varied Lorikeet - I miss you every single day
Hi everyone,

Just just joined the forum and would like to introduce myself. My name is Jasmin and im from Sydney Australia. I was owned by a Varied Lorikeet named Elmo for 8 years who brought me so much joy, but recently has sadly passed away. Im in search of a new little feathered friend for around the end of the year hopefully and thought this to be a top place to get some info and read up.

Look forward to getting you know you all!

Jaz

Welcome!
So sorry about your loss :(
What kind of parrot were you thinking of getting?

Hi Brodie! Well im living in an apartment and most likely will be for a number of years so it needs to be on the Quieter side... so i have been looking into the Crimson bellied conure and also the blue throated conure as they are both available in Australia and are the quieter species of the conure. My lorikeet was a very small little guy only weighing 50 grams, so i would really like a bird that is a tad larger, but still staying in the quieter category Lol , hence those specific conures. Ive also looked into a senegal and red bellied parrot as they are ment to be the quiet ones from the Poi family, but unfortunatly they are hard to find in Aus, esp sydney. I would absolutely LOVE a parrot around te size of say an eclectus, but the bigger they get, the louder they get dont they? I see you have a female eclectus, what is she like as a companion for you? :-) Or any other suggestions would be most welcome (preferably a oil based so there is no dander, my partener is a dust cleaner o.c.d and im sure the dander would not make him happy lol)
Thanks, Jaz

If you have your heart set on a red-bellied or Senegal, I believe Priam breeds them :)

Scarlet is perfect, she never screams, but she is always occupied haha. The only time she screams is if she hears another parrot on the TV.
As a companion, she is honestly my best friend. She adores me just as much as I adore her.
If you need any info on a breeder, pm me. I know the perfect breeder in Melbourne if your around here. They have conures, ekkies, macaws, greys, everything. I'm picking up m male ekkie in six weeks and blue and gold in six months from her, she's great!

Hello Jaz, welcome to the forum! Can't wait to hear which wonderful parrot you choose to bring home.

Hello Jasmin and welcome!
First of all, I am so sorry for your loss of Elmo.
I have a Crimson Bellied Conure and he is such a sweetie:) He can be a little nippy at times, but I think that is just his huge personality coming out. He is pretty quiet, even when he thinks he is being loud.
Looking forward to hearing what kind of bird you decide on:)

Welcome to the forum! So sorry to hear about the loss of your baby. :(

Crimson bellied conures are such gorgeous birds. I would love to have one someday. Let us know what you decide.

Welcome Jaz! :) Good luck finding the perfect match for you.

Thank you everyone for your replies! :-)

Mekaisto: I noticed it says you have worked with a number of birds... have you worked with the blue throated conure at all? Ive looked up Priam and did see that they had a pair of red bellies available and had emailed them asking how often the breed them etc but just waiting on a reply. They seem to all be quite expensive on that site, or alot are for sale but dont have a price listed. Have you every dealt with them?

Hey Brodie, I cant PM yet Lol. Dont have enough posts up, but when i do, yup i will most def PM you to get some info and feedback on the breeder you have used. Do you know if they breed blue throated conures or the red bellied parrots by any chance? :-)

Hi Terry,

I have heard that the crimsons are real beautiful birds.... and even also that they are a bit more chilled out than the green cheeks. Is your CBC the same size as a green cheek or is it bigger?
:-)

I'll find out for you, ill be around there sometime in the next few days, so whenever it will let you pm, just let me know lol

Hi and welcome
So sorry to hear about your loss

Many members will give you fantastic info pertaining to many species
Good luck finding your soul mate soon

Sorry, I haven't dealt specifically with blue-throats, but I hear they're very easy to care for and have a good personality.
I've dealt with Priam for diet and RTB cockatoo info - they are on the pricier end of the scale but the bird you receive is guaranteed to be in top condition, absolutely perfectly raised and handled. Their breeding setup is fantastic :)
