- Tango, cockatiel (Affectionately referred to as "Tango-bird", "birdy-guy", and more!)
Hi all! Right off the bat I'll just go ahead and say that my name is pronounced "Chazzy" not "Chase-ee". Tee hee! I get that from people so often on the internet because it's being written instead of spoken so I like to just throw it out there and maybe even put it in my signature.
I'm a 33 year old mother and teacher to my two lovely ducklings -- Sissy is 6 and Bubs is 3. Bear is my husband and we live in the New England area.
I just adopted a sweet guy named Tango. (I believe he's pied but I'm not sure that I really understand what that means. He's yellow with orange cheeks and gray and white wings.) My neighbor rescued him over a year and a half ago when a friend of hers found him outside in a tree. She said she spent a good amount of time rehabilitating him and he's come a long way but he still needs tender care.
The reason he has come to my home from hers is because she is currently dealing with hip surgery, possible resurfacing of breast cancer, and something else...I can't remember, but the point really is, she's quite ill and she doesn't want him getting depressed/cage bound so she decided she had found a good home in me after we'd gotten to know each other.
I am excited and honored (totally in love with the yellow man!) but based on everything I've read, cockatiels are very sociable and need lots of love and attention and this guy actually needs extra love and attention to his needs on top of the norm. I'm nervous about making any detrimental mistakes or missing some vital sign that he's in some kind of need. So I signed up in search of tips and support from experienced owners. My neighbor is also staying in touch with me when I have questions but because of what she's going through right now, I don't want to add to her stress too much if I can help it.
I think the request for newbie tips would probably fit in a different thread, though, if there isn't already a thread geared to that end so I will search for that/post a request for that elsewhere.
Thank you for reading! I can't wait to get my feet wet! ^_^
