Hello there...thanks for the quick reply. I moved to Iran from U.S. 3 yrs ago and took my pair of double yellow headed amazons along with me. Since I settled here I've been trying to find a vet who could do some blood or other tests on my birds as I used to do it in U.S., but I wasn't able to. DVM's don't practice the same in Iran.I tried to use the vet visit as you suggested, but my credit cards don't work for U.S. anymore, as I realized I need to pay them to get an answer. My female amazon has (diahreaha) , this is being going on for the past week. I'm afraid if it goes on like this, I might lose her. I still receive Harrison pallets from U.S., give them fresh fruits and everything that I've been doing in U.S. My baby is not doing well and I am very worried. Please tel me what to do. Thank you.

PS: How do I post a public note so everyone could see ? would you help me on this as well ?

Welcome and I am so sorry your bird is sick. As said a vet visit is a must. One other thing you can do in the meantime is to add organic (if you can find it) apple cider vinegar to the drinking water the recommended ratio of 1/2 to 1 tablespoon per cup water. Keep in the refrigerator if you mix up more than one serving at a time. Good luck and we pray you can get to a doc. Hold off on fresh fruits also.

Please try to get to the vet as soon as possible. Are you sure it is diarrhea? Do the droppings have a shape to them or is it a stream of water? Stop feeding fresh fruit for a few days, and make sure the fruit or water is not contaminated.

Hi there. Yes it looks like diarrhea. Droppings don't have shapes. In fact I found a lab that could test the droppings, but they claim that there is not a negative rated bacteria in the sample. Still they suggest an antibiotic called SULTRIM. I'm not sure about the substances in this medication, but the vet claims to just give them an oral solution for the treatment of dehydration due to diarrhea and hold off on antibiotics. He says this medication is very strong and might harm her kidneys. I've been using the solution for the past 3 days but she has not changed. I'm am going to hold off on fresh fruits and antibiotics for a few more days and see how her droppings change. Or I might ask for a milder medication to treat her if there is any. I will keep you posted on this. I really appreciate your help and ideas. Thanks again

PS: this happened couple of days after she chewed up a piece of plastic container...not sure if she swallowed any piece of it, or all of this has happened by nature.

I can not find organic food or drinks here. I can only find " Apple vinegar"...if you believe this is safe, then I will feed her that.

It should be ok. Organic is a good way to go but if you do not have it there apple cider vinegar should be ok.

I've been adding vinegar in her water and caught out veg. and fruits. I did not see much difference in her dropping. The feces part of the stool is not runny but does not have shapes, too much urine and more than usual urates. I talked to a vet in capital and explained her situation. He thinks that my 7 yr old female amazon that has not laid eggs so far , may want to lay eggs but she can't because of the lack of calcium and minerals. He suggested to give her chicken bones and egg shells for a while. I have been doing this for the last 3 days, just a slight improvements in feces, but still too much urine and urates. I need your suggestions.. what should I do if this is the case and she can't lay eggs. I'm worried about egg binding since I don't have a help of a vet or a possible surgery. She has good appetite and still active as usual and I don't see her drinking too much water for a possible kidney problems. But how do I make sure she does not have a kidney problems while I'm giving her more calcium in her diets. I am giving her fruits and sprouted seeds and hope she eats them. I am also giving her more sweet potatoes. I'm waiting for your suggestions. Thanks much
