Hello, I just joined yesterday because I am very interested in becoming a bird owner.

I recently moved to a medium sized four plex apartment building close to where I work as I start my first full-time job ( I am 20 years old). However I am far from home and new to the area, and basically the most time I have to socialize is during the weekend. So I thought a bird to keep me company during the week would be a great idea since my apartment does not allow larger animals like dogs or cats. Or animals that are known escape artists like snakes.

I was told small to medium sized lizards and birds were except able.

I have experience training dogs with my father when I was very young and into high school years I even helped some of my friends! But I understand a bird can be very different.

I will be snooping around for info on smaller birds such as parrot lets and cockitiels. I dont want to get too in over my head after all.

hey karkzan and welcome to the forum, sounds like a cockatiel would be just right for you. i think they are so much easier going than a parrotlet . read around some of the older threads in the different sections and pick up loads of great info. hope to see you around.

Why thank you. I hope to see you around too!

As an added note I am very open to options, I would have no problem spending a couple hours a day interacting with my bird, even in the mornings for a bit if its up to it. I will be visiting a pet store nearby this weekend that apparently has a very good reputation and has a variety of birds. So different suggestions and opinions are welcomed!

Thanks! :)

even in the mornings for a bit

Um YES, every morning before work you'll be getting him/her fresh food and water :)

It's worth every minute!!

Welcome
