I may have posted in this section before, but it's been years, so I figured I'd reintroduce myself. I'm owned by 2 fids, Peachy and Sam, and one lazy, fat cat named Cricket.
Peachy is an African Red Belly Poi who turns 3 in March and I've had her for just about 2 1/2 years. She likes very few people and her universe is centered around me....24/7...365...literally ALL THE TIME. LOL. She's cute though. When she knows you're mad at her, she'll say her name very slowly and end it with an down-note. How do you stay mad at that??
Sam is a Yellow-Sided GCC and was hatched on 4/15/2010 (thus the name Sam). She's our Tax-Day bird and currently sick (see the thread in the conure subsection). She's feisty, bosses everyone around, and in general, has a Napolean complex.
I'm almost 31 and have had parrots since I was a teenager. My first was a handicapped Quaker named Poco, whom I lost to a cat a couple of years ago. I'd had her since she was hand-feeding and I still miss her. She was almost 10 years old. (Lesson: never trust other animals around your birds!). She was a great QP, she had gout in one of her legs, so she used that leg as a peg leg and hobbled around, but didn't let it stop her! Most people didn't even notice it.
Anyway, I love birds! I'd love to do parrot fostering and rescue, if I had the time and money, but I have neither at the moment, what with my commute to work and I live in an apartment, so I don't think my neighbors would appreciate the noise...
My boyfriend wasn't much of a bird person before me, but he's come to love them, even when they're being obnoxious, and spoils them with treats and play time and the works. He just might be worse than I am.
