Arnie (male Solomon Islands Eclectus Parrot, born 10/09/14)
HI there,

I have joined this forum as we just picked up our very first bird yesterday. He is a hand raised male Eclectus parrot and we have called him Arnie. My husband's family has a fair bit of experience with birds, but mainly finches and racing pidgeons. This is the first time for either of us owning a parrot. :green2: We live in regional (small town) Australia. We also own two dogs (mainly outside dogs) and a cat.

The other reason I joined here was last night, when I was Googling various questions about Ekkys, I kept finding answers here, so I figure it is a pretty helpful forum.

So, hi! :)

Welcome to the forums. It is always good to see another aussie member in here. Which part of Oz are you from?

I hope Arnie is settling in well and once he is settled we would love to see some pictures. :)

Welcome! Yes, it is a helpful forum. Hope you get any help you may need.

Thanks for the welcome. I am in NSW, not too far from Canberra, in a small town. I saw you are in very warm and humid Rocky, Bunddibird, so a fair way from me. :)

We've only taken a couple of quick pics so far. Letting him settle in before too much happens. We had him out of his cage this afternoon for a few minutes which he seemed to enjoy. He's happily eating and drinking and had been chortling away this afternoon. So far I'm enjoying this bird gig! :)

Hello and welcome! As one of the many incurable addicted to eclectus lovers on this forum I am always happy to see another! :D

Hello and welcome to you and Arnie! I am really glad you joined us, and I am also looking forward to seeing pictures of your sweet new boy (and your furred family as well!)

Iabell, in your parrots section you have YNA, hybrid, DYH. What does that refer to? Is this is a super stupid, total newbie question? LOL Wondering if this is something I need to know about Arnie. We are taking him to Canberra on the weekend to see a bird specialist vet, just for a post-purchase health check and to make sure all is well. Is this something I should be asking about then?

Terry57, getting there... Just got to upload photos to somewhere other than Facebook first. :D

Don't worry, just found the list of abbreviations. :D

Finally got around to uploading a pic of Arnie. Hopefully this isn't too big, not sure what the forum rules are on pics yet.
