Good morning!
I just joined this forum , although I have been stalking for a little while now
My husband and I currently have a briliant 2 year old German Shepherd named Kali, a 4 year old Golden Retriever named Noah, and a 6 year old cat named Lexus. We also have 3 fish tanks: 1 75 gallon with African cichlids, 1 30 gallon with community fish, and 1 55 gallon with a couple of young RES turtles.
My husband grew up with a cockatiel, whom he loved and has wanted a bird ever since. I had never had a bird before so we spent a lot of time visiting a local bird store and talking with the staff members and socializing with the various birds they have there.
After several months of reserach we have decided on a Blue Front Amazon. We really wanted an intelligent bird with the ability to talk, but that was also outgoing and playful. We knew that without much experience we should not pick a Macaw or African Grey, but i loved the larger size and appearance of the Amazons.
We have since found a breeder who has a Blue Front available who was hatched on 5/29/2011 and has been hand-fed and raises inside the home. He will be shipped to us later this week!
I have bought the food the breeder currently has him on, as well as a 24"x24"x48" cage and many toys.
Does anyone have suggestions or feedback on how to better prepare for his arrival and transition period in his new home?
Thanks for everyone's help - I am happy to be here!
Nikki
