Hi everyone,

I've had a little frosted canary names Ulysses for about a year and absolutely adore him. I've recently been inspired to purchase a small companion parrot this coming summer after meeting, learning about and continually spending time with my friend's 2 y/o Timneh Gray- they are just so much fun and I cannot wait to have a little parrot of my own.

Welcome to you and Ulysses!

Timneh Greys are wonderful companions and every bit as talented as their larger Congo cousins.

Thank you very much!

I would love a timneh but truthfully am not able to afford one from the get go, although I do love my friend's (despite her being moody and going through her "terrible twos" right now!) I will probably end up with a conure or cockatiel :)

I completely understand, but have you considered adopting from a rescue or shelter? You might find a grey in need of a new home for an affordable price. The flipside is your new friend may have been rehomed several times and carry "baggage" in the form of behaviors that can require diligence. Just a thought!

Hello and welcome! I'm in western Canada as well :)
I'd love to see pictures of Ulysses, I love canaries.

Thank you all!

Scott, it’s also a matter of space, otherwise I’d love a larger bird- as I live with my family and have already snagged a very cheap (very nice!) cage off of classifieds. I will continue to check, but all of the rescues around me tend to have birds just too big for me (macaws) and mostly “adoption pending” in their ads, which of course is great. :)

And Terry57, I’m in the same province! Not too far off from each other :) I’ll try to get some pictures of the little guy today!

Small world! We have a few members from Alberta:)
Looking forward to the pictures!

I like your style!
You're researching and thinking and reaching out. Good for you.
Welcome. I'm glad you're here!

P.S.
May we PLEEEEEEEASE have a photo of your canary? I love canaries. Frosted... that's a light-colored red factor?
The name tells me it's a little male. Their songs are so enchanting!
A million years ago, I had a breeding pair, and they were delightful.

Thank you GaleriaGila! I have lots of research to do yet but so excited :)

Pics are up in the “other” species specific section! Frosted is just white-tipped feathers :) he’s a very cute little guy.
