I figured I'd use the phrase I hear from my B&G most often to say hello :)

I just wanted to step up and introduce myself. I'm Gina. I live in Utah (for now), and have had birds for most of my life. I used to work in rescue, but after several years I decided to hand it over to someone else. Rescue work is taxing, emotionally and financially.

I just took on a baby B&G rescue, so expect me around here asking A LOT of questions!

Hi Gina, and welcome to the forum. So glad you have you on board. :)

Wow, I can only imagine what you must have encountered while you were doing rescue. We'd love to hear your stories, especially of your B & G. :)

Hi Wendy,

I just posted the story of my little chicken in the macaw section. I figured it was better there than here. It's rather long winded, so I apologize in advance.

Rescue work was hard but in many ways rewarding. Before I took over as director, my avian knowledge was limited to the macaw. It's overwhelming how much I learned about other species and fascinating the differences between them. The greys are probably the most comical and the ones you have to watch what you say around! I remember one CAG that I had gotten in. The owners never disclosed that she had a potty beak, so I made the mistake of putting her in a room with 3 other greys. Within a few days sh*t was the only thing I heard from all of them.

Thanks for the warm welcome.

I don't mean to be laughing so hard, but imagining you hearing THAT particular word from all angles...it's kind of hard to keep a straight face.

It was like my own little R rated show for weeks. The first time I went to vacuum under her cage, she was standing on a rope perch. I guess I threw her off balance or something because she gripped the perch with all her worldly might, threw her body forward and said "sh*t! sh*t! Sh*t!" then looked dead at me and said "what the h*ll are you doing, man?"

I just stood there... partially in horror and partially in disbelief, not really knowing how to react. Eventually I just laughed and said "Pandora! We don't talk like that!"

She laughed at me. Not a bird laugh. An actual human laugh.

Greys are such characters. One day I'll have one of my own. Luckily we don't use words like that around my house!

BAHAHAHAHAHA!!! That's hilarious!!! I think I would have been shell shocked, not knowing how to react.

My B&G picked up the exact same word unfortunately, but ever since my youngest has gone off to college, he hardly uses it. :54: Strangely enough, when he DOES use it, it almost seems appropriate, as badly as that sounds. :o

LOL, love the stories! I'll have to go and read yours soon! Welcome to the forums! I cant wait to hear about your b&g! I still do rescue ... 9yrs now! it is taxing and rough! I completely understand why you've taken a break. I do the same every now and again! Glad to have you with us!

OMG, they do say the right word at the right time....They make me laugh so hard with the words they say sometimes.... :D

Hey Gina, welcome to the forum. Love when new members join who have experience and can help out the newbies with questions. Hope to see you around. love reading your post, how about writing mine for me, LOL.

Welcome...!!!!! :-)

Hi and welcome! Thank you for the morning giggle I just had reading about Pandoras reaction to your vacuuming! Awesome visual!!

I wanted to take a minute to thank you all for the warmest welcome I could imagine! What a great group of people brought together by a common passion.

Most people that meet me, consider me strange for just HAVING a bird. They don't understand what a parrot gives back to you. They come bearing that same unconditional love and affection you would get from your child.

When I got into rescue and had a house full of them, my friends were convinced that my cheese had slid off the cracker. I secretly admit, I miss having a house full of birds.

Aside from that, humorous stories are something you'll likely hear quite a bit from me. I'm mom of 2 girls, ages 22 and 15 and 2 boys, ages 8 and 9. The boys are 12 months apart and I'm pretty sure they share a brain, with only 1 having access to it at any given moment. There are days I wake up and say "Who the heck Jerry Springer'd my life today?" Deep breaths, Gina. School starts Monday! It's been a LONG summer!

Welcome to the forum! I read your story about your new baby! Such a sweet story! Looking forward to hearing from you more and I'll try to help with any questions you might have! :)
