I have been mulling over adopting a pair of budgies. However, having never been a bird owner, I am trying to do my research to give my new prospective "children" the best new home and "mommy" possible. Anyone with advice or suggestions for a new bird owner please feel free to message me, even if it seems common sense to you, it may be the most foreign concept to me.
I want my birds to feel comfortable and know that I come in peace. :p Also, I know that budgies are extremely intelligent (as are most birds) and can usually learn to talk. If anyone has any suggestions on the best approach to training new birds, I'm all ears.
Other than that, I live in sunny Northwest Florida with my husband. He works full-time at a sign and branding company as a Sheetmetal Mechanic, and I work part-time at the hospital as a Medical Coder.
Please don't be strangers and stop by and visit me here anytime. :D

Welcome to the forum Kimmi, this is a great community with so much to learn. I like to think we are all kinda bird newbies, no matter how long we have had birds for, there is always something new to learn ;).

Budgies are awesome little birds and I think great candidates for feathered companions. The biggest considerations that seem to come up when selecting a breed are cost (bird, cage, food and toys can quickly add up), time you have available, noise level, travel commitments and space available. And I am also GLAD it seems that you are one of the select few in this world (many of whom can be found on these forums) that realises that there is a great responsibility that comes with any bird and they are in no way 'disposable' or 'easy' pets....they are however a whole load of fun ;). Good on you for doing all your homework before making your decision.

Anyway, good luck with you're search. If you have any questions fire 'em this way, members here are always willing to help. :)

Kimmi to our wonderful forum, awesome members and very informative posts. Becoming a guardian is a big responsibility, glad you doing your homework beforehand.
Sure many members with Budgies will be most willing to assist you with whatever question you may have.
Good luck

Welcome Kimmi to the forum. This is a great place to make friends and to learn.

I thank you for doing research 1st before becoming a guardian.
Why do you want 2 Budgies?
Like Ben said the time involved is tremendous, ours fids are not pets they are children, they depend on you totally. Birds are use to being in a flock and now your family is the flock.. so you husband needs to also be committed to the fids.

I would get the book "Parrots for Dummies" I think the majority of our members have the book and use is constantly. I would search the web for everything on Budgies and read it and bookmark the best so you can go back and read it again.

Remember Parrots are like children. They do require a lot of time and patience. It will take a little time to get them comfortable to their new surroundings.
