Feygele - BFA
Hi eveyone! Maya in California here! I inherited my grandparents' beautiful blue-fronted amazon parrot, Feygele :green:

Just looking for tips, since I don't know much about birds.

I'm a full-time student right now, working on my MA in linguistics.

I'll post in the species-specific forum too, but the vet expressed concern that Feygele's ears seem to be full of air. She couldn't really figure out what was going on. I thought his head was just shaped like that. She got them to un-puff for a few hours, but then they puffed back up. Has anyone seen this before??

This is the most extreme it's looked:

Also I'm trying to raise money for Feygele's surgery to remove a huge mass. Please let me know if it's against the rules to post this here, and I'll gladly remove it:

Welcome to the forum. Yes start a thread in the amazon section. Poor fella looks like he needs a good Avian Vet. can you get some pics of his legs?

Welcome, and as henbecked stated, you are going to find a wealth of friends and knowledge in the Amazon section.

Always remember, Amazons Have More Fun!

See you in the Amazon section.

I would also suggest that a new cage is in order as that one seems to be rusting.

Hopefully, it is the overly small and rusting 'travel cage' based on the background.

MikeyTN is 100% correct, not only rusty, but overly small for an Amazon. If you do not have a larger cage, consider something in the 32 x 23 x height range or larger.

Please take the time to read the first post in the Amazon section: Amazon Body Language.

Yes. That is Feygele's travel cage. We were on the way to the vet. He has two nice big cages (one inside and one outside).

This is Feygele's tumor. I'm trying to raise/save money to get it removed. I got an estimate for $719. I can't stand watching him drag that thing around, but I worry about the surgery. He's not a young bird (~27) and his weird puffy ears make me wonder what else is going on.

I can get a better picture of his legs later (I'm at the library, studying away).

I'm definitely about to check out the amazon section. This is such an active forum! :-)

Poor baby!!!! I hope your able to raise enough money soon to get that fixed!!!! That seems very painful and irritating.

Welcome! Although I can't answer your question, I can tell you that my Amazon was the first bird I ever had & he quickly became my best friend. I love my zon & I would rather be home with my birds than anywhere else.

Check with your grandparents estate. It is very possible that some monies could be made available to help defray some or all of the costs. This would be even more likely since the Amazon came with the medical issues. If you are named as part of their Will to receive the Amazon that will help greatly in this process. Newer Wills commonly include monies for "pet" support. Worth Checking!

When speaking to them, please state the the medical issue are preexisting!

Thanks for the welcome and all of the advice! This forum is great! FYI I can't reply to private messages yet, but I will be able to soon (once my post count hits 20)!
