HELLO TO BIRD ALL LOVERS,

My Name is Rick2006

I want to join your website to talk about birds in my life.

Most important talk lately is about 3 Black-hooded baby Parrots, only
several weeks old,,, that fell out of a rotted palm tree nest in my back yard Saturday 4/20/13.
They look to be about 3-4 weeks old. They still have pin feathers
and lots of downy feathers around chest and rump.
I left them outside for about 12-16 hours to see if the parents would
reclaim them. I found them in the grass and put them up into a
tree hole, but not the original nest
best as I could do. Next morning the parents were screeching but
had abandoned the 3 babies.

So I brought them in the house and have started feeding them
Kaytee Exact hand feeding formula every 3-4 hours.

First feeding they ate and swallowed but not much.
Second feeding went better, 2 of the 3 started to do the head bob while eating.
Next day all 3 babies ate about 7 to 10 ml of food.
I think I am on the right track to help/save these 3 birds.

We have 15 years experience with Quakers but not with Nandays.

ANY ADVICE GOING FORWARD PLEASE!!!!

THANKS Rick2006

If the Mods can move this thread to a better place,
please do move it,,,,,,,Thanks:)

Welcome, I'm so happy you saved the Nanday conures! So are you located in south America or is this a invasive population?

Also, we love pictures ;)

Welcome to the forum.....sounds like you're doing all the right things with your new nandays.....

Welcome to the forum!!! Having Nandays isn't that much different from having Quakers. Except Nandays screams a lot more....lol....It's wonderful you took in the babies and care for them otherwise they wouldn't make it out there without the care of their parents. So now your their foster parent. Do you have any other birds in the house??? IF so I would keep these birds as far from your other birds as possible and always wash your hands and change of clothes before you attend to your other birds. Since they were raised outside by their parents, they're highly likely to have mites and such. So once they're old enough you should thinking about treating them for mites just to be sure. Good Luck and please post some pictures of the babies!

Welcome to the forum:) and good luck with your new babies
