Howdy people,

found this forum a few hours ago so thought i would join as it contains loads of great posts on things im interested in - Lovely Parrots.

I have been waiting to make a parrot part of our family for years, but with having a baby and other children i put it on hold until they were a bit older.

Saturday i took the Plunge and took ownership of a gawdjuss rose breasted cockatoo (Gallah).

My research was complete and there is only so much you can do before you have to take the plunge, i ticked all the boxes of owning such a parrot and have the time, money space and love the bird would need.

After just a few hours i was in love with the little Birdie, @ 16 weeks old (Hand reared) she / he has made my life complete, i know this bird will give us so much joy over the years and my commitment to it will be 1000% and will never let him / her down.

already Stella (That's what we have named him, after the beer) steps up, plays lots of games - he loves the buttons on our remote controls and i flip them upside down and he has worked out that the buttons are on the other side and flips it over, he loves it. some of the things i have noticed it thou if you try to play to much with him he gives you a little nip, he does like to play alone for a while and will happily do this, so i will let him, if i dont he shows me he wants to by nipping me (i repsond with naughty boy, but allow him to conitue on his way and dont force him) one thing he does like todo is nip my stubble it doesnt hurt but find it strange and he is ever so gentle.

anyway thats enough about my new baby .... hope everybody is ok .

Im from the U.K by the way ....

Welcome and be welcomed, Stu and Stella. Oh he is such a baby, you can tell from the pic! So innocent, for now. Try and promote self play so he does not become a velcro bird, screaming for attention. If they develope self play skills and desire, it will be better all around. Is he weaned onto veggies, fruit, pellets and a small amount of seeds and nuts?

One of the nicest cockatoos I have had the pleasure to meet was a galah. Smart, friendly and well behaved. Good luck and dont be afraid to ask questions.

Hello and welcome! Congrats, Stella is beautiful! Enjoy the journey.

Hello and welcome to you and Stella, darling little baby.

The playtime nip is excitement/overload I expect. Plum and I are looking forward to hearing much, much more. :-)

What a gorgeous baby Stella is!

Welcome to the forums! Thanks for doing research prior to welcoming Stella into your home. Cockatoos can be challenging, but Galahs have wonderful reputations!!

Welcome to you and Stella. It is great that you've done lots of research and prepared to have a parrot such as a cockatoo. And there's quite a few here that have them. Galahs are great birds and one of my favorite 'toos. Stella is such a cute baby bird. The journey is going to be well worth it.
