Thought I'd introduce myself since I see myself being here for some time.

My name is Anna, I live in Colorado and have all my life.
I've never had a companion bird but I've been fascinated by them and looking to get one for a good year and a half now. I tried fostering a parrot via a local rescue but all communication stopped at one point and I still do not know why. I'm still furthering my knowledge on parrots and birds in general so hopefully by the time I am capable of getting a parrot I am as prepared as I can be.

My favorite parrots are probably eclectus and conures. I absolutely love how the look and what I've been told about them.

I don't plan on getting a parrot until I can have more life more sorted out and get through school. Right now I'm in my senior year of high school so I still have some time until I'd be in a good position to get a parrot.

Right now I have 2 rats, a hedgehog, and 2 dogs. I use to have 4 rats but unfortunately one passed away earlier this year and another just a week ago tomorrow. The other rats are 3 and 4 years old (Peter Pan and Blaze). The hedgehog is 4 years old (Alexander). One dog is almost 6 years old and the other turned 1 just last Friday! (Bandit and Maizie)

I really love to draw and I've found myself drawing birds a lot lately. I think I'm rather good at it but I definitely have lots of room to improve.

Welcome Anna! Good for you planning for your future parrot, you'll be glad you did. You're in a great place to ask questions.

Hello, Anna, and welcome to the Parrot Forums family!

I'm glad to see that you are doing all the necessary research now, rather than making an impulse buy and finding yourself unprepared. I get the feeling you'll make a great parront.

I second the request to see some of your avian artwork!

Welcome and be welcomed. Great that you are smart enough to wait a bit before getting your companion bird. In the meantime see if you can:

a) Volunteer at a rescue or sanctuary
b) Part time job at a bird or pet store
c) Work part time or even volunteer at an avian vets office (priceless)
d) Join a local bird or parrot club
e) If your parrents agree and you have space - do bird sitting
f) Dont give up trying to foster a parrot - some bird shops do this too

And lastly enjoy the folks here on the boards. Good bunch of bird nuts.

Welcome Anna, and thank you for a wonderful introduction! My condolences for the loss of your two rats this year.

You have already learned some skills of maintaining companion pets that will serve you well once you acquire a parrot. I admire your methodical approach that will serve you well in all endeavors!

Would definitely enjoy seeing your artwork!!

I will definitely post my art work once I figure out how to upload it from my phone.

The reason I looked towards fostering instead of just volunteering is because all rescues I could find were a bit too far away from for me to be comfortable in driving to relatively often. Then I don't know many pet shops that carry birds in my area except for pet smart and that's only sometimes. I'm still looking around though so hopefully I can find something.

Sorry for the quality of the photos, my phone is kind of bleh xD

I tried to draw a macaw but I did the head and beak too small so I just started referring to it as the dainty macaw

Just a few, I have lots more c:

I'm going to star calling Gus a dainty macaw, as he is small for a B&G. Love it! Don't ever say you messed those drawings up - they are fine. That's the bird that wanted to come out!

Very nice, Anna! I'm no artist, but know what I like. Your drawings have poise and great detail with facial expressions!

Ahh thank you all so much!

I am late, but welcome! Your artwork is beautiful! Please keep sharing:)
