Hello,

I am new to the forum. I have a 5 year old Indian ringneck named Prim and a 33 year old little corella/ bare eyed cockatoo named Nigel. Both of which I adopted after their (two different) owners were moving. I’ve had Prim for a bit over a year and adopted Nigel 2 weeks ago.

Prim was well loved and came to me relatively tame but Nigel was kept in a cage his entire life. As result, he is not your typical cockatoo. He doesn’t scream or talk. He only makes a tiny little sound and seems content sitting in his cage. He also already prefers my husband, bobbing around and kissing him through the cage bars. Prim loves to be out of her cage. Her favorite place is on the stand in front of the window.

I’ve joined to further my knowledge on parrot care so I can provide them the best lives I can. I also have five rescue dogs and three guinea pigs.
Best,
NL

Welcome! Thanks fir taking in re homes!
Ther is hope for Nigel to overcome being cage bound and have a more enriching and joyful life. I’m sure with your loving care he will bloom and slowly overcome the prison of his mind and body. It can be slow going to rehabilitat cage bound parrots, but so worthwhile. You can google cage bound parrots there are some good article out there or I can help you find them

Welcome to you, Prim, and Nigel! Hopefully you can slowly transition Nigel outside his cage slowly and vastly improve his quality of life.

Thank you for the welcome. I look forward to learning how to help Nigel learn to be a more comfortable little cockatoo.

I forgot to mention that I have two male pigeons also, Louis and Dexter. Louis is an oriental frill pigeon that my grandmother found in her yard and Dexter is a rock pigeon rehomed to me by someone that bought him from a flea market. I brought Dexter home hoping they would be friends but they barely tolerate each other so they each live in their own pen side by side. They are funny little creatures that live a life of leisure.

Welcome and be welcomed !

Here are photos of my birds. First is Prim doing curtain acrobats, second is Nigel on his way home, and third is of Dexter and Louis.
