I just got back from vacation (went on a cruise for 7 days). I left my conure with my mother and she said everything was fine, he was eating normally etc. I came back yesterday and my conure was EXTREMELY aggressive... not like normal - I tried letting him out and hand fed him fruits hoping that everything would be ok... but no... after I was done feeding him (assuming that we were chill again) he jumps onto my shoulder and viciously bites me! Several times as well, and I started bleeding. I put him back in the cage and I have not taken him out since. Obviously this must be from the vacation. I am very scared and do not know what to do! I left him in his cage all day today so that he may get better, but he seems even worse today... every time I go near the cage he puffs his feathers and tries to bite me, or starts squeaking very loud. I NEED HELP!!!

These little creatures make me laugh :)))) moody green monsters :))

step1. Breathe

assuming he is around 2 years old this would be puberty hitting, a very frustrating time for a little conure where they do truly become brats. It can also be a little tantrum from you being away. Both of them will pass in a few weeks, just keep patient with him for the moment.

Right now focus on getting his excess energy burnt off, maybe practice some flying with him getting him to fly around and play with some new toys. With the cage right now he will be more territorial, it's the little guy's nest and he must protect it with his life for the non-existent babies.

Easier said than done but don't be afraid of him right now, he can't exactly do much in the way of damage (I've had worse injuries from a shoebox than a conure can give). He's not angry with you, he's just lashing out because he feels weird and doesn't know why much like any teenager. The hormone period does calm down after a couple weeks and even though it comes back each year this is the worst it will be as long as you don't instill biting into him. Any time he bites you just give him a calm but firm "no" and put him down somewhere away from you (not in the cage) for a minute then after go back to fun an playing just so he knows the fun stops when he bites

what lord triggs said. I prefer to have the bird walk back to me, I think it sends more of a message but yeah he's right.

well the hard part is stopping them from running back immediately! :D

Okay this makes me so scared. When I got a green cheek I thought he wouldn’t be much more difficult than my cockatiel. Now I’m reading post after post on sweet little conures turning into vicious monsters who do nothing but attack people. Better enjoy my sweet baby Kermit while I still can...

Actually clark is hormonal still but he never really takes it out on me....just on inanimate objects. But we have been fully bonded for like 2 years and he knows a bite means being put on the floor. I wouldn't worry to much, things will pass...

Conures can be bratty from what I've read when it comes to hormone time, that ball of energy needs to release somehow and unfortunately conure beaks are a bit stronger than a cockatiel's and unlike their big brother macaws they don't hold back. At the same time think of how a budgie can get blood going if they want.

Just need to enforce good behaviors then re-inforce when they become naughty birds

My budgie has never drawn blood in her four years, yes she has pinched me hard and it has been painful but never actually breaking the skin. My cockatiel is the perfect bird, he has never bitten me hard enough to really hurt, he does tricks and snuggles up to my cheek while I give him scritches. I guess I was expecting my conure to be just that, and while he is like that now, I just have to accept that things will change.

Once my monster GCC gave me a bite on my neck which drew blood and looked like a love mark [emoji23][emoji23] I had to explain it to people at work everytime I felt like someone is staring at my neck (I'm not sure if they believed ) [emoji23][emoji23][emoji23] And another time he bit me in the ear and it hurt for two weeks everytime I slept on it [emoji23] GCCs are true monsters!! god I love mine so much for his moody character. It makes them soo unique that you have no option other than just accepting them as they are.

Yikes!! I have a question, when did your GCC start acting like a monster?

Don't get too scared, Fly. For what it's worth, even at his worst I still love my Yoda more than words can say and I don't regret a thing about him. Sure he can get nippy and naughty at times, but OH the LOVE he gives!! When he cuddles up against my neck and sleeps in my hair, making little beak crack noises and purring sounds, I couldn't be happier. He can't stand to be out of sight from me or he comes chasing after me.

A conure will pay you back 10 times over in love and cuddles for every little bite and growl. :)

How old is Yoda? Is he still a baby? If not, what was puberty like and how did you push through it?

Even as a baby? Kermit is about 7 or 8 months old and is not a monster yet... a little nibbling here and there but no hard biting.

Mine is a little spoiled and not always a monster. He also loves to cuddle a lot and sleeps under my sweater. I was just sharing his worst times:)

My conure keeps biting

Hi I have a Pineapple conure who is going to turn a year old in a month. I don't know the gender of the bird but I'm guessing its a female. Pineapple isn't molting at all. She is always biting me and rips my skin off all the time. when I try to make her step up she always bites me and makes me bleed. I don't know what to do. I get scared trying to pic her up because I know she will bite me without a doubt. Can someone please help me.

Yoda will be one Year old next month, so I will have to let you know in another year what puberty will do to him. As it is now, he has sweet days and crabby days. But the crabby times don't last long and no matter what happens I know he loves me. Time, love and patience cures all bird problems. ...mostly :o
