Binky our goffin is about 7 months old, we've had her 3 months now. We were told she was weaned but needed 1 feeding per day. The breeder & pet store had her on a sunflower based diet.

We started out with 1 feeding per day it was not enough so we went to 2 per day for about a month and a half. We started mixing the formula with pellet & seed in a bowl. We've been doing this for the last 1.5 months. She's had a good mix the whole time in her cage.

Yesterday I weighed her and she is 259 grams I stopped all formula and she is only getting a high quality pellet/seed/fruit mix the same as my CAG eats. Today she is 247 grams. I figured I would continue and see what happens. I only plan to continue until she looses 10% of her starting weight hopefully she starts eating the other stuff.

Please, what else can we do or try?

Have you tried softening the pellets with some water or fruit juice?

What about feeding sprouted seeds over dry seeds?

Or... feed some warm steamed/mashed vegetables/soft foods? Sweet potatoes, carrots, banana, maybe some nut butter (peanut, but if you can, get almond?) or Red Palm Oil or Coconut Oil mixed in?

Try and gauge her weight based on her keel bone. This may be a better indicator than her actual weight, since an ideal weight can vary depending on the birds body frame, exercise and metabolism.

Anybody else?

Move him onto pellets. My birds once ate nothing but seed. What I did is that I put juice in the pellets

You'll need 100% apple juice good quality pellets

For every 2 spoons of pellets you put in you put a cap full ( I used a soda cap ) apple juice in and mix it. Bury some sun flower seeds in it and reduce the amount of sun flower seeds every week until they're is no sun flower seeds. When he is on the juice pellet diet for a month then you can put him on a normal pellet diet

Any other suggestions?
