Have you researched any training methods? Clicker training is highly regarded around here. Also, requesting he step up onto a dowel instead of on your arm. How long have you had this bird? How old is he? Please provide more info so your question can be better answered. Has he bitten you before?
If you fear a bite you will get one. Greys can almost read your mind. I suggest you work on this fear through the bonding process. You can train him first to a stick or perch held in your hand. There are videos on you tube about this.
2 Budgies, 3 Cockatiels, 6 GCC'S, 2 Crimson Bellie Conures, 9 Sun Conures, 2 Major Mitchells, 12 Eclectus parrots of various ages, 2 BF Amazons, 2 Hahn's Macaw's, 1 Red Tail Black Too
Kramer you really have to learn to build up trust with your Grey. Parrots will bite but if you learn his body language & get to know him better you can build a beautiful relationship with your bird.
It will be difficult for people to help you here unless you give more information. So, please let us know: how long have you had him? What was his background? How old is he? Etc.
But, as has been said countless times on this forum: if you own birds, you will be bit. Learn their language and you'll mitigate the damage. If YOU'RE afraid, you won't get far. It sounds like you have to get to know yourself as much as you need to get to know the bird.

You can have a much better relationship if you didn't fear getting bitten. Are you able to talk to a breeder or someone experienced with parrots, maybe they can help you overcome your fears. Is your boy very friendly??
okay then hes 3 and a half years old and i can touch him all i want and he lets me kiss his beak when hes out of the cage when he was with his other owners they didt have time for him so he was basicly always in the cage so when i got him i started takeing him out and he likes me but i dont know if i should try to pick him up
I would at least make an attempt. The beak can be intimidating but I've heard it's a great feeling when you and parrot are bonded closely. I have an african grey and me and her are best buds. Of course we don't have the close bond like parrots and owner that have been together for years but I just love being with her. You will probably get bit eventually. I've only had Pearl for about 5 months and I've been bit hard once or twice. It's not as bad as your thinking though Sooo I'd say go ahead it sounds like you two are close anyway!
O good If you haven't held him a lot it could take just a little bit to him to warm up to it but it sounds like he already trusts you. Just take it slowly at first and don't be afraid. I think somebody already mentioned they could sense it.
