HELP with asthma..

I have read up loads about how good The Eclectus is for people with bad chests so I got Jasper. Only problem is his smell of strong Mustyness is effecting my chest and voice. When researching I didnt see nothing about this musty smell. I have been showering him every other day and feeding him fruit veg and a Ekkie seed mix with no sunflower seeds or peanuts. I really dont want to send him back to breeder (who is aware of my problem but on holiday) This isnt a case of it may not be your asthma when i know my own body and it is my Asthma and it is from Jasper. Just wondering of anyone else experience with this smell etc thanks : ).

I have an air purifier (3M) going all day in the same room as Plum and it gets very dusty, very quickly. I have asthma also.

Damp wipe all surfaces each day instead of dusting as this just sends it up into the air. Vacuum and mop rather than sweep, frequently. See your Doctor to see what is available for you? Keep Jasper's cage very clean. I am able to do Plum's quickly and easily couple of times a day as I have papers on top of the grate. Make sure you get some fresh air away from Jasper each day also.

This may all sound a faff but it could be the difference between keeping him and having to let him go IMO.

Just having a quick look at HF purifiers and it seems there are many diff models. Is yours big enough for the room?

The one I have has three levels of sucking and blowing so to speak, only really need to leave it going on #1 level as that it good enough.

I am not sure where you live but I know here in New England (east coast) the pollen has been wicked this year. Eclectus have no dust and a well fed Eclectus should actually smell sweet, very fruit like smell no musky smell at all. They smell a little different right after a bath while they are still wet but it still should not be offensive at all and they do need baths frequently.

I have a few different air filters a Rabbit Air and two Austin Airs, they are pricey but they are the very best in my opinion, the Austin Air is amazing that thing can pull a piece of lint off a thistle!

Each persons triggers are different but I would make sure you are not reacting to something else in your environment.

I would take Jasper to vet and ask about musky smell. I take Screech in the shower with me every morning whether she likes it or not. Is she wants to take another one in her water bowl, that's up to her.

I have asthma that I developed in my mid 30s I am 50 now, not a lot of birds but a few dusty ones and I am an artist so I work from my home studio so it is important to me to keep the air quality as clean as possible.

My 2 cents... about the "aroma"...

I doubt you could take away the smell, but I suppose you could get some advice from people here as to what you might put in bathwater... something non-toxic and good-smelling...

Another idea, which I got from my bird: I notice that when he preens after eating a fresh pepper, he smells like the pepper. If it's a sweet red pepper, that's nice. Hot serrano... not so much! So what treat could you offer that smells good?

Where abouts on here can you sell? yes I did he said he was fine and the normal smell it just effects me sadly : (
