Many companion birds are cage aggressive, especially when they are in new surroundings...unlike puppies & kittens, companion birds require something more than a bowl full of food and a scratch behind the ears...you are going to have to establish a rapport with your new feathered friend and sticking your hand in it's cage is not the way to start that rapport, rather, sitting by its cage, talking to it directly & whenever you walk by, then during your waiting, you might want to read up on target/touch & clicker training and let your bird come to you...they are flock animals and will seek out the attention of their human flock members.....
