While my wife and I were doing our homework on purchasing our caique we visited various pet stores and got many opinions on plenty of the subject. One of the girls at one of the pet shops mentioned giving these seeds as a treat to our parrotlet. When we got our caique that same person said hemp seeds were fine to be given, mixed in with its daily diet of food in his tray. This morning I visited a pet store close to home where we have gotten to know the bird caretaker of the store. When we mentioned hemp seeds for the caique she gasped ! No !! Don’t do that it’s not a good treat for a caique because if it’s nature. She told us it’s pot! The last thing a caique needs is more stimulation . Is this true? Any thoughts people, would be nice to here from you! Thanks

Hemp and pot are not the same. Both are cannabis, but different species. It’s like saying a blue and gold macaw is a Scarlett Macaw. They aren’t the same. Both are Ara’s (=cannabis), just different species of Ara.
Hemp is a very useful plant often used for its fibers to make anything “hemp” - hemp bags, clothes, etc. it has no more psychoactive properties than a carrot.
Hemp seed will not get your caique high and is a fantastic addition to your birds daily meals. We often topdress our ekkies food with hemp seeds.

To add to what was said above, breeders often add hemp seed to boost breeding hormones. I do this myself, and it works. Sooooooo the last thing I would do is give it to a bird that I DIDNT want to turn into a ball of crazy baby making energy

I havent heard any articles for hemp or cannabis for bird, but cannabis is also an alternative medicine for your pet especially for your dogs? I've heard that CBD Hemp is now a thing for dogs with arthritis, compromised immune systems, stress responses, aggression and digestive issues.Well they said it was pretty safe because of the low THC, CBD hemp won’t make your pupper high.I was reading some info here about CBD here in Alien OG Strain Review - I Love Growing Marijuana. I would very much appreciate any ideas and advice regarding on this issue on dogs using cannabis as an alternative herbal medicine. Let me also hear your thoughts or personal experience when it come with cannabis. Thanks

Hemp is not giving you any kind of high - as some students find out every year.
I just came in from the botanical gardens: we grow a patch of hemp there and it gets raided regularly by stupid people who think they've found an easy and cheap way to get buzzed.
Getting cannabis is not really difficult here, but why bother?
Scritching your parot will give you so much more than some kind of plantbased rush will ever do. (Not a user, just saw too many people go bananaas over it)
If you are looking for 'medical marijuana' - it's a bit harder to find than the recreational one. ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Medical_cannabis for the basics)
Based on the variation it gives you painrelief, relaxes you or can help to focus (yup weirdly enough) in different measures.
There is even a variation especially bred to provide relief for menstruation cramps.
So many types for so many different uses.
(there are complete mailcatalogues out there - just pick your plant and buy the seeds)
It's a funny plant with a bad reputation.
(although the "get it on" for parrots is new to me
)
oh for people who want to grow one: they really really STINK! (smell bad)

The reason hemp is so closely seen with Cannabis is mostly due to the misinformation spread during the earlier days of 'The war on drugs' where a large part of the campaign against Cannabis and in turn Hemp is because Hemp was a cheaper better resource than typical papers and cottons which of course the lumber and cotton industries were not happy about losing their business so they helped kickstart the movement against anything remotely related to cannabis. Though the THC component of Marijuana is definitely not good for people, though not as bad as alcohol.
Edit: I may have gone a little off-topic! Anywho Hemp seeds are perfectly okay to eat, I've had a couple every now and then and they're okay not as nice to me as sunflower or chia seeds but still pretty okay. Never knew about the *ahem* effects on parrots

I've been giving CBD oil that has the equivalent of 0.8mg CBD / drop to our aged Toy Fox Terriers for years. It does help with arthritis in them and humans. They get about 2-3 drops. I saw on a Youtube video of a lady that has many parrots and she recommended CBD oil, drop or two, to birds that will have anxiety when she leaves, or does toe work, or other things that the birds find makes them "anxious".
I also give the 2 older ones, a small amount of decarboxylated Pink Kush CBD 30:1 strain, in a very small amount. It is nearly deplete of THC but it helps them relax and can stave off mental dementia.
As for hemp seeds, or marijuana seed. Here is an interesting fact. I dug it up on research when the federal government made hemp legal in all 50 states, but not cannabis "Marijuana" , defined as having THC greater then 0.3mg/g by weight. Seed of Cannabis sativa, whether from hemp or marijuana have 0% of any THC. The seeds literally look alike, and have no smell. Even in a lab the 2 different seeds cannot be classed or identified as either hemp or marijuana. WHY, you may ask... Well the part that has the THC/CBD and other cannaboids is in the modified leaf structure known as the "flower" and on those leaves there are Trichomes that look like transparent mini mushrooms. It is in these Trichomes that any THC or CBD would reside. In the seeds there is none. Nada, Zip. Both are Cannabis sativa and both have the same general continutent inside, but no THC. By the way the THC is actually THCa an acid form, and only during hearing does the THCa loose the acid or carboxyl group of molecules which then makes it psychoactive . In the raw state one could eat marijuana that is uncooked and it would provide extreme anti-inflammation properties, some 200 times greater than common Tylenol, but would not induce a "high". It has to be heated., smoked, cooked, baked in oven to convert the THCa to THC.
To that end, Cannabis sativa seeds, hemp/marijuana, has been around thousands of yeard for bird to consume and spread the plant around. It has nutrition same as any other seeds, protein, fats, and minor vitamins and minerals. But it lacks Trichomes, or any THCa.

Yes, read the above. For hemp leaves or marijuana leaves to have any psychotic effect it has to be heated first. Before that it is a GREAT anti-inflammatory (either / or) in the raw state.
