Heyo, my name is Shivra, and I have a 9 year old Lilac Crown. :green1:
I inherited him from my father, and now...... I'm really unsure how to care for him!

I joined to hopefully learn more about taking care of him and hope to make him happy.

He's currently in a 40x30x24 cage I bought from a local bird store/bird boarding facility who makes their own cages and i got it for $75!
He's currently eating a mix seeds/pellets/nuts bag from the same store that's sold by the pound so I'm not sure what it is. He gets veggies from the garden (cucumbers/peppers/tomato) but I'm not sure what else he can have.

He says one or two words, and step-up, waves on command and I'm working on flapping his wings. I'm not sure really how to curb his grumpyness. He's a swiper, he'll try to bite everything and anything but me. This makes it difficult since i go away one weekend a month, so I just put a HUGE water dish and two big food dishes and my friend can put water in the bowl with a watering can through the bars.

any advice for a new bird owner?

Welcome Shivra ~~ not too sure how to look after Lilac Crown but they are very beautiful parrots ~~ maybe some other mates can help you out ^^

any pictures to share with us ?? :D

Hello Shivra, congrats on your new bird. What kind of material did they use to build your cage? Uncoated metal can expose your bird to metal poisoning. Veggies are good, no avocados, no cherry or apple seeds, no chocolate or caffeine. Amazons are bad to eat too many seeds, it isn't good for them. Try to wean him to a pellets & veggie only diet, use seeds for treats. There are lots of info on this forum & the internet about good diet choices for amazons. My amazon is very similar to yours, we would love to see pictures. Good luck.
