Hi my name is william, I live in lansing, mi and I just adopted a blue and gold Macaw. I've own and taken care of a few different parrots inlcuding conures, quakers, parakeets, and cockatiels.
Ive been researching larger birds and decided a macaw would work well. I found a rescue home where the lady there houses many birds of her own as well as surrenders. She adopts for no charge which to me is a true rescue. Any who the macaw I rescued was taken care of by an older man for 15 years and he passed recently. His daughter then took the bird in but did not want him and the husband was going to set him free. She decided to surrender him to the lady I got him from. Since being moved from his home where he had no cage and only a perch he has begun plucking feathers from the back of his neck.
3 people went to visit him for possible adoption before me at which Marco, the macaw, got very aggressive. However he was nice enough to let me stroke his head and back a few time before warning me with a beak nudge.
So thats my story! Ive begun taming him as its only been a few days but he's showing some signs of improvement.
