cockatiels, 3 alexandrines and 2 congo african greys.
Hi all,

My husband and I have been owned by birds for about 7 years now. We started with one cockatiel and now have around 80 birds, but 14 of those are chicks looking for new people to own. We handrear all our chicks and usually have around 30 -50 a season.

Apart from the cockatiels we have 11 Maroon-bellied conures, 4 alexandrines and a congo african grey who has the run of the house. We also have a border-collie cross who sees her job to be protector of all the birds and 2 cats.

So, I guess it's safe to say that our fids are our life :)

Hello and welcome to the Forum:) You have a very large Flock! Would love to see some pics :)

thanks :)

I'll get on to the photos soon, but I promise not to upload one of each of our babies - we'd probably use up the data quota :D

Ok, I've added some pics in the gallery (I hope). Just a small selection of our babies, but if someone wants to see a particular cockatiel mutation, I can often provide a pic - provided it's a mutation that we have in NZ.

Also, I should probably mention that Georgie, our CAG, we acquired when she was 11. We were told she had ricketts as a chick and therefore her legs are misshapen and she doesn't stand like most birds. Fortunately, she can perch and she walks around using her beak as a third leg. It certainly hasn't affected her flying ability which is good.

Welcome to the forum! Your birds are gorgeous! What a dear heart Georgie is!!

Beautiful birds :)

I am also from NZ! :)
Wow you have an african grey, im super jealous. As they cost heck of a load here.

Also welcome! :D

Thanks everyone. Hey Ash, check out trademe... the African Grey's are coming down in price. You can get them for $2000 rather than the $5000. If only I had a spare $2000...

That is a big family lol Welcome to the forum

Kia Ora!!!

Welcome to the forum. What beautiful birds!

But why oh WHY did you have to say that about the $2000 Greys??? Im trying to save for my wedding!!!!

Righto off to trademe now!!:D

That is an impressive flock! :DD Welcome to the forum from another Australasian XD I am also new here

Hey, greys last longer than most marriages, anyhow, so a better investment?

:)

Oh Perch, thanks for that great laugh :)

Thanks to everyone for their nice comments. We love our babies so much. Got the camera out today to take some more photos of our newest members, a Whiteface Lutino Male, a Whiteface Pearl Hen and a very, very heavy reverse pied. All chicks that we've raised. But unfortunately, I'm not the best photography - especially using hubbies dslr and most of them turned out blurry. I'll get him to try to take some tomorrow...

Hi again,

I've just reinstated our website which has photos of nearly all our birds and knowing how much everyone here loves pics...
