Hello! I am so happy to find this forum! I've always had a love for birds. We had parakeets as kids, but I never really knew the amazing creatures they really were. I started working at a large pet retailer when I was 19, and was put in the "specialty" department where I learned to feed baby birds. I certified by the state and started hand feeding the African Grays we'd get in to sell. In doing this, and handling the other hand fed babies we'd get, I became absolutely obsessed!
One day, a lady came in and left a shoe box in our department. Another employee opened it up and inside was a very neglected Blue Headed Pionus. This employee took him home (she already had birds) and bought all the essentials, only to realize she couldn't keep him. I volunteered to take him, and 7 years later here we are! His name is Poncho, and he's approx 16 years old. The age is very approximate since the owner was unsure of how long he sat in a dark bedroom before she decided to get rid of him :/
He now leads a very spoiled life. He gets cage free time during the day whenever someone is home (90% of the time) and has a playpen attached to his cage with treat bowls and toys. I do have some questions, but I'll save them for another post!
