Cemore, my Quaker Parrot buddy
:green2: Hello, my name is Shana and i'm the proud new momma of Cemore, he's an 8yr. old Quaker parrot. He's had a rough life. He's had 4 different owners before me. I happened to get the chance adopt him from a family member who'd just had her first baby and didn't have time for him anymore. he's only got one leg because of a fight with a pet squirrel about a year ago and he has behavior problems because of lack of attention, and the skittishness of the family member that had him before me, they were so afraid he'd bite them they were constantly jerkying their hands away from him so he thought it was like a game, and the only way they could get him out of the cage was to towel him. i haven't had a problem with just reaching in and picking him up out of his cage and the couple times he acted territorial i just ignored it and picked him up and loved on him and haven't had a problem since, he's in love with me and hollers and squawks the whole time i'm at work, i atfirst tried to have my parents come over and check on him when i was gone, but he greatly dislikes anyone besides me so it caused more distress. so it's just me, cemore, joey(the dog), and william, bean, and paiseley(the cats) for now, i might be getting my mom's cockatiel when i get moved and all settled, i thought maybe cemore would like another bird to talk to while i'm gone. i figured i could just put their cages next to each other so they'd have a bird friend to look at. I'm still learning all about the bird world and would appreciate any helpfull info you guys can think of. I am so glad i found this site and hope to learn lots from all of you, thanks in advance :D

Welcome! I'm very happy you have your new buddy. Many birds go through several homes in their life and I find it very sad :( have you looked into trick training? That is a great me two stimulation for your bird and also a fun activity.

Welcome to the forum! Sounds like Cemore has had quite the life so far! Hope he's loving it at your place now!

Welcome to the forum! I'm glad Cemore has finally found a forever home with you, he sounds like a real cutie! Most parrots do (sadly) get passed around quite a bit before they find the right home :-( Considering his past, and his prior injuries, I think your first order of business is to get him into a avian vet to have a wellness checkup. As with most adoptees, he will likely have some minor health and dietary issues that need to be addressed. You will also benefit from getting him a health checkup, since you can ask the vet any questions you may have about general care, health, behavior and diet. The guidance of a good a-vet will be your key to getting Cemore into good health and good behavioral guidance. There are also a lot of very knowledgeable and experienced folks on this forum who will be more than happy to help you along the way as well. Many of us have been where you are, and want to help you get off on the right foot, so ask any questions you have along the way! Best of luck to you, keep us posted, and if you can, post some pics of your new little buddy.

Welcome to the forum. Nice job giving your Quaker a warm home.
