Pearl, Female, Cockatiel: Penelope
Hi! I wanted to introduce myself.

My name is Gracelyn but some people call me Grace. I'm proud to be a texan and I'm proud to be a Christian. And I'm homeschooled. :) I always loved birds, they are my life. I do hours of research on my mac almost every single day. I know a ton about them! But most of all i LOVE animals! I own 4/6 pets in my house. I currently own one Female, Pearl Cockatiel named Penelope :yellow1:! I live in a smoke free environment and my family eats Paleo so my bird gets lots of veggies because we always have them! My favorite things to do are Practice/play Basketball, Anything with my pets, Play on my laptop, and get money LOL! I will hopefully own a Galah Cockatoo soon this year. So i might ask a lot of questions. Thanks for reading! :D

Hi Grace! Welcome to the forums!

How old are you? Nothing personal, but it sounds like you're high school age, which home-schooled or not, is probably not the best time to invest in a 40-60 year relationship with an animal.

Unless with the support of Mum & Dad :)

I agree to an extent - but when are circumstances ever optimal? I'd say mine were now that my children are comfortable with big parrots (they're 5 & 6 and handle a couple of 'toos as well as our birds), I'm in a stable long term relationship and I own my own home with the only close neighbour having a sulfur crested cockatoo so I don't have to worry about noise complaints there!

But I'm approaching 30....which means I could finally get up the balls to buy a larger parrot, and still have them when I'm 85 :O

I think as long as your parents are on board and you have back up and contingency plans (is there a college nearby, or will you have to board - assuming you want college?) it can be okay. Isn't there a young girl sometimes on here who's balancing a macaw and a degree in medicine? I accept it's the exception not the rule - but with dreams and determination many things are possible :)

Welcome Grace!

I'm 11 and I have quit a bit experience with parrots. I have been working hard raising money and MONTHS and MONTHS of research about many different birds. My dad used to own an Amazon the owner said he was a yellow amazon but how he explained how it looked I believed it was a yellow napped amazon. :D But I plan to clicker train future parrots
I'm trying to clicker train my cockatiel but we got her from a bad breeder and because of that she had an infected eye. So now she can't see thought that eye so it's hard to clicker train her. She is flighted and I believe all birds should be flight. And some (like a galah) have to be delighted or they get fatty tumors.

And I also do not want to go to collage. I want to do online collage because I am very close to my parents. But that is just me talking and in only 11. But I want to stay by my house as much as I can. So then I don't have to leave any of my pets! Or my family. It would break my heart. :(

Hello Grace and welcome to the forum! I'm so glad you joined us, you can learn so much from the folks here:)

Hi, Grace. You sound a lot like I did as a young lady. Loving animals is a lifelong obsession, and a great one. I had my first cockatiel as a teenager and he was with me long into my adulthood. They are special birds. Welcome to the forum from a fellow Texan.

Thank y'all! :D I just joined about 2 days ago and i already learned so much. And meet some nice and cool people! :)
