Momma to Mochi- Cinnamon Green Cheeked Conure. Hatched 4/18/16
And the new baby, Romeo- Hahn's Macaw. Hatched 4/26/18
Hi All,

I'm Danni, just became a mom to a 4 month old Cinnamon Green Cheek Conure named Mochi. He's like a velociraptor with the attitude of a toddler. I let him out to play and hang with me over coffee and breakfast and any other time im not occupied with schoolwork. He gets seriously jealous though if im trying to read on my phone

We're becoming besties. He'll jump up on my shoulder and hang upside down from my glasses lol. He'll fluff himself up and revert to his hatchling days and fall asleep under my chin. He will try to nip, but what I've learned from experience, as much as you want to yell, and reprimand, you cannot react If they bite, try not to make a sound. They think it's great fun they're getting a reaction even if it's negative, just close up your hand so they can't get a grip and calmly put them back for a timeout. Do not entertain it.

I've had him 2 days so far, and he has seriously bonded to me already. I'm lucky I' m on vacation from work so I have plenty of time to learn his quirks, and he can be put on a good schedule. He has learned quick that when the light goes out, its night night time. So far, he has learned to kiss and will step up on command. I'm surprised at what a little sponge he is. I also learned he has an affinity for disturbed and fergie:) Little guy is so stinking cute. I have fostered several larger parrots before, I've had everything from parakeets to Macaws with serious issues. I have some really good bird bread recipes, and I'm glad I found this forum. Sorry, I totally gushed, I'm in love with this little guy.

Thank you, I'm gushing over the cuteness of him. The bird bread is so easy you take the eggs and throw them in a blender shells and all. I also add broccoli, any veggies, and dried fruits. You can use regular cornmeal instead of the muffin mix to cut down on the stuff they dont need and the best part, it's good for us too.
2 boxes Jiffy Corn Muffin Mix
4 eggs
1/4 cup milk
3 tbs. oil
1 cup raisins
1 cup diced apple
1 cup grated carrots
1 cup grated zucchini
Pre heat oven to 400 degrees. Mix first 4 ingredients together in large bowl. Add next 4 ingredients and mix well. Grease and flour 2 bread pans. Bake at 400 for 35 mins. Variations: You can substitute any fruit or veggie such as: blueberries, cranberries, bananas, broccoli, squash, caulflower, green beans, raspberries, spinach, nuts, pineapple, etc. You can also use other muffin mixes such as the oatmeal, bran, etc. Be creative and use your imagination. You can freeze any leftover bread or prepare it in advance and freeze for future use. Serve warm.

The recipe looks interesting; thank you! As for gushing over your cutie-pie, I would, too. I love my gcc!

This is the first parrot I've ever owned where I'm the first in their life. I've fostered so many neglect cases to where the psychological damage was past the point of return, if you thought about cuddling or petting, even walking too close, you'd lose a finger. So this is an amazing change of pace. Conures are cool little parrots. My pittbull is terrified of Mochi, it's hysterical. A 5.6 Oz little thing has the poor dog crouching away.

Hey Welcome to the forum I have a quick question would that bird bread recipe be ok with macaws also because I would like to be able to make a batch that both goose and my future macaw could enjoy.

I just love GCCs! They are wonderful parrots, so full of energy and love and character. I love them as much as I love my African greys. Two very different birds indeed! Welcome, welcome!

That is exactly who I used to make it for. I had a blue and gold, as well as a scarlet, Fred and Peter, who were from a terrible abuse/neglect case. The birds were competely naked from over preening. They needed serious tlc and good nutrition. Honestly they started growing feathers and everything. It wasn't fed as sole nutrition, but it was a great way to get lots of veggies and fruits in them. We also found.out Fred was a girl at this.point, she felt better enough to.start laying eggs. Like broccoli, if stuck in a blender and mixed with apples, they love it. It's a textural thing when it comes to the florets. Some birds love it, others not so much.

This is a prime example of what happens when people do not do their research on a parrot before they get them. Peter is the Scarlet, you can see the tufts that appeared:) that was a happy day. Fred is the little blue and gold. Both were naked as Jay birds. They found forever homes and they are now fully feathered again

Welcome to the forums, Hope you enjoy it here!

Hello and welcome to you and Mochi! He is a beauty:)
I'm really glad you joined us!

Welcome to you and Mochi, thanks for joining!! Seems you have a great affinity for parrots, seems you did wonders for Peter and Fred!!

I have to confess, horses were my first love, i spent years undoing bad habits humans taught them, retraining thoroughbreds and rescuing severe neglect cases, but as I get older and things break alot easier, I am now smitten with parrots, my second love. Fred and Peter were my loves, i cried when they found their forever homes! But they are living in a nicer house than mine complete with a sunporch thats climate controlled with every toy imaginable. Horses break large bones. Worst that happens with a parrot, i lose a finger. I think I'm good though if I survived Peter with all of mine still intact! Even so, Ive got 9 more:) I've had a relationship with parrots ever since I was about 7 when my dad remarried an absolutely insane woman who was a bit of a hoarder. She had an amazon, an African grey, we had zebra finches, green cheeks, cocktails, parakeets, and my favorite, her brothers parrot Mac, a scarlet macaw that hated everyone except me. I'm in awe of parrots. Now that I'm grown and own a house, I can now have them again. Eventually, I'd love to get an umbrella cockatoo. I'm in my late 30s and my kids are at an age where if something happened, my babies will always have someone to love them. I have been toying with the idea of fostering again. I need to get this little bugger settled in first though, which, he's adjusted from day one. Sorry for rambling, lol, I've been up since about 8 yesterday am and worked overnight.

Welcome! What a cute birdie, enjoy him! I'm so jealous, your birdie is so cuddly! I just got a 3 month of Black Capped Conure and he runs away when I try to pet him, except if he's half asleep, lol!

Danni and Mochi... welcome!
The Rbird and I love this place; so will you two.
