My name is Venessa, and I share my life with Enzo a 10 week old cockatiel, and Riki, a three(?) month old budgie.

I'm from Vancouver BC!
I'm an outreach worker. I love riding motorcycles, longboarding, traveling, fitness & going on adventures~

Thanks! :ip:

And a link to a video of the birds being cozy with each other!

They have separate cages and are supervised when they are both out at the same time. What's your take on housing them together if they are raised together from a young age?

Hello, and welcome.
I'm glad you found us, and I look forward to getting to know you and yours.
I've only had one bird so I will join you in seeing what others with experience have to say. They're adorable together... that I WILL say!

Welcome to the forums, Venessa!! You live in the perfect paradise for outdoors activities.

You are wise to use caution with species of dissimilar size. Enzo and Riki appear content and friendly, but I'd defer to members with cockatiel and budgie experience.

Welcome and be welcomed.

I'm goodness!!! That video is cuteness overload!!
Great photos too, I love the second one where the cockatiel is watching birdie tv lol!!

Thank you everyone! Much appreciated :)

Welcome to the forums Venessa, your name is spelled exactly the same as my sister-in-law, and I'm pretty sure she'd be well jealous of your bikes too!

I have a somewhat older cockatiel who shares his (enormous!) cage with a budgie newcomer. As my vet pointed out, budgies are like that pesky little brother who keeps hanging around pestering and annoying the older siblings and sometimes it earns them a smack around the ears! Fang is very good in that he only gets a little cranky at roosting time if Valentino doesn't show him due deference to his seniority. They spend the majority of their day outside the cage anyway so they manage quite well.

Budgies and cockatiels are probably two of the very few species that I would ever consider housing together. I did experiment with my teeny tiny purple crowned lorikeet Lilly in the same cage as Valentino for a very short while, mainly because of the sheer size of the cage and Lilly's hyperactivity levels. Lilly is a tiny little thing but she and Val got into a few pretty ferocious fights which landed poor Val at the vet's with a (thankfully!) very slight graze to his eye. So that was the end of that experiment!

Even so, I put three food dishes in Fang and Val's cage because, just like your pesky little brother, Val keeps pushing Fang off the food dishes because he seems to think whatever Fang is eating must be more interesting! And sometimes two birds who have gotten along just fine for ages will decide they've had enough of each other and have a falling out, so you might just need to keep an eye on them and be prepared to cage them separately if need be.

Other than that, welcome to you and your feathered babies Venessa, they are very sweet indeed :)

Welcome to you and your flock! I’m in your neighbourhood - near Bellingham :)
