Cockatoo
Hi all, I have kept parrots for years, greys, macaw and a cockatoo.
My Blue and Gold Macaw aged 4 had decided that she does not want to come out of her cage! I've sort advice and was told not to feed her and offer her treats to come out. It did not work. She is quite happy to step on me asks for a kiss but as soon as I try and walk away from her cage she clamps back on to it with a foot or her beak. Any advice would be very helpful.

How is your sitting indian style try getting her on your arm and just sit in front of her cage and work from there.

Any chance that this is hormonal? Hitting maturity and the season change and your girl is going through some form of nesting ritual? Maybe with a bit of time, this will pass.

I have one right now that turned extremely vicious. I am missing a divot out of my finger. I am chalking it up to seasonal hormonal behavior.

Could it be possible that she is sick? To suddenly decide she doesn't want to come out of the cage is an odd behaviour. My bird went through the same thing and when I took her to the vet it turned out she was sick.

Hi All, thanks for the replies. She is not sick, (already had her checked) shes happy in every way. Its as if she scared to come out! She will climb on and off me quite happy, she doesn't bite she loves a cuddle and she liked to be stroked. Its when I try to get her to move away from the cage that she grabs it and hold on. Its been going on now for a few months. I thought it would just pass but so far it has not!! I suppose it could be hormonal.
