I am excited to "meet" other parrot lovers. I have recently adopted a 23 year old female Greenwing Macaw named Simon and have so many questions!

First, does anyone have any experiencing taking their macaw camping? (We pull a camping trailer with a SUV.) I would love to take her with me and I am working on the harness training. Are there any collapsible cages or stands or carriers that you have found work well? Any info I should take into consideration?

Thanks, everybody...happy to meet you!

Hello and Welcome, Kimberle! Nice to have you and Simon join us.

Hi Kimberle!
I'd love to see a photo of Simon :)
As for camping, we're in NZ and our wildlife is about as safe as one could get, with stable summer weather. Henry will be coming with us, he's already practised a lot in the car for road trips! He's harness trained and has a travel cage. I wouldn't risk using gas around the bird. You'll need to think about cooking and climate control, if they're parrot safe in your camper.
Would love to hear how you get on!

Hi Kimberley. Good to hear you took the rescue route. I have several rescue birds. Macaws are not my thing but there will be many experienced owners here to give advice,
