My cockatiel has been holding his wing out from his body kind of funny today - I'm guessing he hurt it somehow, but I don't want to bring him to the vet if it's not a big deal.

If he holds it out funny you have to bring it to the vet for diagnosis . If its a break you run the chance of infection . Is he still eating and drinking ?

is he panting he may be trying to get relief from heat or it may be broken.

He is acting completely normal. Seems happy and otherwise healthy. The only time he holds it funny is after he attempts to fly. We're trying to make sure he doesn't make any attempts, but he's kind of a crazy bird and does whatever he wants.

Whew. Vet said just a sprain! Poor Errol is on a bit of a cage lockdown though. Can't keep him from flapping like crazy once he comes out!!

I take it he's clipped? When you bring him out, sit on a rug or carpet with him. IF he flops, he will fall right on the rug or carpet so he wouldn't get hurt. But pick him back up as he will learn that he's going no where and will stay with you much better.
