The diminsions are 24" x 1" Manzanita bird perches. Measuring with a tape measure on the outside my cge is 30 L to 18 inch W. So would the perch diminsions be too big?

I currently have the medium Multi-Branch Manzanita Perch Multli-Branch Manzanita Bird Perches but would like to also find her a longer perch.

Also should I toss out the perch that was made for the cage or is it worth keeping?

so the manzanita perch is 24" long and the cage is 30" long? it might just fit lengthwise, but it wont fit the other way (the 18" width)

but, you might have some trouble with the cage door, depending on your cage's style :)

if the old perch is plastic or dowel, ideally it isnt the best perch to use

With a 24" long perch, you may have to support the unattached end, because I'm pretty sure that a perch that long will sag & bend the wire cage bars where it attaches, maybe not right away, but after a while.....

I got a manzanita perch. It sucks. Don't get it. They are very slippery for birds and I would recommend getting any other perch. My sennie couldn't even use my 24 inch manzanita that I got and he always slipped so I had to wrap it up with medical bandage to make it rougher so now he uses it. So ya don't get it.

I use our manzanita branch as a tree stand. Its probably 4 feet in length. It works out well for my Hahns but I have added a 1x4 plank for him to eat/play on so he doesnt struggle with the slick branches unless he really wants to.

I personally LOVE dragonwood!

If I were you I'd go with the smallest MULTI branch. :)

You can sand down manzanita perches to roughen them up. I used a dremel to sand off the bark, although I'm sure there's probably better ways of doing it! Inside are three manzanita perches.

You might also want to look into some of the multi-branch manzanita ones.

Multli-Branch Manzanita Bird Perches

I used to have a cherry head that came with a cage full of manzanita perches, and he too, slipped! But he also had multiple health problems and couldn't properly grip as he should have... so when he slept, he leaned forward... and down go birdy, feathers and all! Back then, I didn't even think about sanding down the perches, not that I had the tools to, anyway! But I did eventually replace them.

All of my current birds have manzanita perches, and I haven't sanded those down! And all the birds use them just fine!

If you have a thin wire cage, don't use heavy wooden perches unless you can mount each side to the cage bars. If you want longer perches, get rope perches! You can put them in the cage straight, diagonal, twisty twirly, or however you want!

Thanks, I am just making sure I ge everything my bird needs. I have some toys, and a couple of rope perches, a second food dish, and a hut (she was use to sleeping in one before she came into my home). I just put in a multi-branch manzanita and ordered a multi-branch dragonwood perch.
