I adopted a 3 year old nanday conure from a local shelter a week ago and he is awesome. I love him heaps, I want to spend all day with him but I don't want him to get clingy or develop separation anxiety. I am trying to teach him to stay in his cage and play with his toys and eat while I'm busy, but he does scream a bit to get to me. How do I go about teaching him correctly so he will eat his food in his cage and play with his toys? The screaming is hard to ignore.. Not because it's loud.. It's so cute! He chatters and yells "you're a good birdy" and "c'mere" and it makes me laugh and look at him or go over so I'm somewhat rewarding him for his attention seeking.

When you calls for you don't come back. As long as he's getting the right diet and is entertained he shouldn't scream except for joy/fear and normal morning/evening vocalization.

Another good thing to do is if he starts to call you when you leave make a small noise(Like a short whistle) and only come back when he makes that quite noise.
