I have heard stories of people just letting their birds wonder free in there homes, but what about all the poop?? how do u do it? Do they wonder around the floor with a bird diaper on or something? (just curious):o

Some birds can be potty trained, some birds seem to be naturally as in not pooping on their caregiver or going back to cage or playstand to go. I have been working with both my birds but right now they are both clipped. Tico, my conure, knows he can't come up to my shoulder until he "goes" and will do so on command if there's anything in there. Jasper is learning this also. If I prompt a couple times and nothing happens I just assume they don't have to go.

They do have parrot diapers actually. I've seen them sold at bird paradise. I just keep an eye and clean it up right away. Good thing their popp doesn't stain!

I have bird tree stands and papers under them. When they are on me they are trained so that as soon as I put them down they will poop, then I pick them back up. And bird poop is pretty easy to clean up too.

I wonder about this too and that is one reason I keep them in one room only. The poo does clean up pretty easily and I'm hoping eventually my birds will perfer their playtop and play area over my couch, otherwise I'll just be using blankets.

You must train them but until you do just keep "Poop-off" on hand.

My GCC has her favorite places to poop. Her #1 spot is on the cat tree in front of the window. I always clean her favorite spots right when I put her away. Keeps things easier.

everything is wipe-able in my house :) we are still getting around to replaceing the room carpet with laminate

there is a packet of cheap, stores own baby wipes in most rooms at hand

if i notice dried on poop, (that is a nightmare to get off! i just leave a baby wipe over it for a bit then it comes of)

all fav poop places have a sheet of newspaper down, as i work in an old ppls home, i take there old papers home with me!

but most important is to be aware where your bird is, as nut will burrow under a cushion, or walk on the floor or just perch on top of a door

and having every1 in the house know, when you are about to walk out of the house/coming home from work etc so bird can be shut up in another room (nut is fully flighted)

i don't like the idea of a birdie diaper, as i just don't think its over healthy for the bird, you can't put barrier cream on the vent, and because of the job i do i know faeces burns the skin

the extra cleaning i don't mind, as it is important for nut to have out of cage time and socialize as a member of the family, or just learn to hang out, so to speak. in my mind i have her for 30 more years, and they need to be as good for her as they will be for me

I just thought I'd post about the birdie diaper idea...I bought a flightsuit/birdie diaper from avian fashions for my pigeon. I put it on him every time I let him loose in the house. The way they are designed, you put a pad in the "Diaper" area which is a pocket area that sits under the birds tail. When he poo's the poo rolls down into the pocket area of the flightsuit and away from the vent. The pad, which is exactly like a kotex thin/mini pad, absorbs any wetness almost instantly.

The poops stay contained away from your birds body and every couple hours or so, (depending on size of bird, may need to change more often for smaller birds) you can remove the flightsuit, empty the poo's and change the pad and re-dress your bird.

For me with my pigeon, it's very easy and he's adapted to wearing it very well. When I want to take him outside, or bye bye with me, I just clip on the leash and away we go.

I've been using mine for about 5 months and I'm ultra impressed with it.

I also bought one for our conure. He took a bit more work to learn to wear it (that's the biggest challenge for the parrot species, learning to accept and wear it.)

But for someone who doesn't want to be on constant "poop watch" I think they are a WONDERFUL bird accessory. :) I give 'em 5 Stars :)

Have a great day!
