I am curious how far you would drive to get a new bird.

I've driven maybe 2 hours one way to get a pair of birds.
most trips are about an hour each way sometimes a little longer.

I was just on Kijiji, and found a recently weaned baby senegal....talk about pulling at my heart strings:confused:.....they are 3.5 hours away, near Windsor.....why are all the good birds far away?

Hmm, 3.5 hours and a comfortable car would be important at that point :)
Have your husband or someone else go with you to share driving so you won't have to drive 7 hours?! So, if you REALLY want this particular bird, I'd say ask yourself if the long drive would be worth it... if the answer is ultimately yes, then go for it!

We drove 4+ hours to get Kiwi. Should've been more like 3, but it started snowing heavily so it took longer than it should've. IF we were to ever get another bird, I think my boundaries would be within state lines. I wouldn't want to rely on someone else to get a bird a health inspection certificate to go through California/Nevada, nor stay the night somewhere with a new bird.

I wouldn't think anything of 3.5 hours for a bird I really couldn't live another day without. Just leave at 4/5am and you'll be home by late afternoon/early evening ;)

With Oz being so spread apart, we were looking at a baby parrot that was 7 hours away. That was one way. That us the kind of distances we have over here so we are used to it.

I think if you really have your heart set on it, you will do whatever is necessary.

Good luck with your choice.

C'mon Beth....3.5 hours "ain't" doo-doo. Hop in your vehicle and bring the baby Senny home. We both know that's where your heart is. :D

Pack some sandwiches and drinks, and make it a fun trip (while your heart is going 100 miles an hour).

Wendy's suggestion sounds good Beth :)...

Hey Wendy, being back east you'd be through several states if you drove that long! I've always lived in CA, so I couldn't imagine driving through another state line unless it was a many hour drive!

When I went to pickup the ekkies I left my house at 6am and got home at 4pm. It was 5 hr drive to get there.

I didn't have to drive that distance for any birds, but when we lived in Germany, we drove 7 hours (one way) to pick up a Bernese Mountain Dog puppy from Switzerland. AND, when we moved to Jersey we drove 4 hours to get an another one of those. :D

I'd say "forget it, I'm having him shipped!" LOL. Long car rides kill me. They always have. :(
Anyway Beth, 3.5 is within an 'okay distance' :) so I think you need to go pick up your NEW SENNIE ASAP.

We drove 5 hours one way to pick up my sun conure Loki! Makes it easier when there is more then one person going! We drove 14 hours one way to meet my horse Chip... there is actually a video of me making weird faces since I was so bored at one point:52: Don't know why I thought video taping that was a good idea....

I think just to Idaho, and Oregon would be my limit. Maybe California. But three and a half hours isn't that bad! :) but I don't know because the farthest I have gone is 20 minutes!

3 hours round trip for Dex & Xander.
5 hours round trip for Ki & Cally.

When we picked up Ekko, we left at 8:15 am and got back home at 10:00 or 10:30 pm. Did I mention it was during a blizzard?

You have been waiting for your heart to melt, please don't let a drive stand between you and something you have been looking for so long:)

so I mapquested the directions....it's only 2.5 hours....

my hubby won't come(poo poo on him) he really doesn't get how much I want another bird, OR how much I miss Safari.
the problem is he travels for a living, he's a salesman for a large computer company, he goes down to Chatham all the time, so he is literally sick of living in a car.
I can't blame him really....but still....

don't even know how I'm going to feel tomorrow with my cold...I have no idea what the weather is going to be like either....poor timing really.

maybe they will still be available next weekend?....one can only hope right?

Is there any way she would hold one for you if you can't make it tomorrow?

A mile farther than you. I win, where's my bird?

probably not Terry, I wouldn't feel right asking her either.
so many people don't keep their word, then bail or they are a no show.

the only way she could hold one is with a deposit.

Well, I will hope you are feeling better tomorrow and that the weather isn't too bad...if this is meant to be, it will happen, I have faith:)

I hate driving. I have to drive across town every day for work, so it would have to be one special bird.

However, if you don't mind driving it's not really that far.
