Double yellow headed amazon
Several months ago I ran into some hard times and thought I would have to find Hiram another home. The more I thought about it I knew I just couldnt do it.I've had hiram for over 20 years. He came into a friends petshop all those years ago along with 3 other large parrots.A man had them but could not keep them any longer. He wanted my friend to find them all good homes.Well I must confess,I first thought about the Blue and Gold that had come in.But he didnt want anything to do with me.He quickly found a home with a man who visited the shop regularly.Hiram came in with a brother a yellow nape amazon called Oedipus they would sing opera and doing silly antics together.Oedipus found a home with an older couple. That left hiram and the umbrella cockatoo... she went very very quickly also.Every morning I would open the shop and help out .Every morning Hiram would greet with his hello's and little kisses. He would scoot down from his play area and follow me around the shop...mumbling and saying things... as he followed me.Every single day I tried to convince myself I didnt need Hiram. My friend Pat would laugh and say," you know.... I think he wants to go home with you." I just ignored all that was being said...one day i was sitting in the office...and i hear " tic tic tic tic" down the tile floor in the hallway...and into the office comes hiram and climbs into my lap. Pat just looks at me and said,"how much more does he have to do?"I just laughed and that was the day Hiram came home with me.If you ever truely wonder if parrots pick the person they want to be with...well he did.
He's been with me in the happiest and most trying times in my life. You know...http://http://i730.photobucket.com/albums/ww310/winddancer70/h1.jpg i couldnt imagine a day without him in them.

That is such a touching story, :( everywhere LoL.
Glad that Hiram was PATIENT AND PERSEVERED, it paid off in the end, you finally got the message Thank goodness haha and I thought we had to be patient with our birds.

Birds are very smart...he knew what you both needed!:)

Smart Bird... You are so lucky...

What a touching story. Hiram sure is a sweetheart, isn't he! I'm sure he was absolutely ecstatic when you finally took him home.

Thanks for sharing, that was fun to read.

You know it is very clear your bird knew you were the right parront for him the moment he saw you in the pet shop. He was done shopping and simply needed to close the deal. Smart bird!

You know you said you once thought you might have to give him up during hard times. If ever faced with such a wrenching place again, you might ask at your local parrot club about fostering services. In are area it is an infomal network of folks who will take on an animal or two for a finite period. I have fostered parrots for servicemen called up for active duty and a cat and conure for a lady who needed a bone marrow transplant. In our little circle there is no charge to the family temporarily placing their pet as everyone donates their time including the vets. I think a lot of communities are trying to do this given impact of economy and the war. Hopefully you'll not be such a difficult place again but this is fyi.

Love the stories with happy endings, thanks for sharing :)
