Rosie the Green Winged Macaw
Rosie is now 9 months old. I brought her home in August and she was molting on her head a neck, completely covered in pin feathers. There are still a few, but that seems to have calmed down.

In the last week or so her back, stomach and wings are going crazy, completely covered. She lost her longest tail feather a few days ago and I can see feathers coming in there as well. I am just wondering how long this will go on for? I feel so badly for her b/c she is uncomfortable.

I shower her regularly and bring her in the bathroom when I shower for steam a few times a week. I also apply Aloe after she showers. I try to help with the casings as much as she will allow. Jerseywendy recommended palm oil, which I am currently on the hunt for. :)

Any information &/or suggestions would be welcomed. Rosie is my first bird so I am in the dark on this.

BP and MSBS both sell Palm Oil. I just ordered some more this morning from BP because they have FREE shipping today, no minimum order :) And their online prices are MUCH lower than if you go there in person.

NICE!!! Thank you! Do you need a code or is it automatic?

I really don't think either of mine have gone thru a "full blown" molt like I've seen Kalani do. I do know that Miri's tail feathers have looked like crap for quite a while but its FINALLY starting to fill out again. I'm actually surprised at it too, as long as I've had them now.

:20: My Coby has also never gone through a full blown molt. I've had him for over three years and he's had nothing that I would consider an actual molt. He usually will have a few pins sprinkled throughout his body (at all times) and about once a year he will lose his tail feathers and grow new ones. That's as much of a molt as what he ever goes through.

Poor Rosie! It has been nonstop for her. The wings coming in are really buggin her and she is not letting anyone but me touch her. I ordered the Palm Oil and am keeping my fingers crossed it will help. Thanks guys!!

Didn't go thru that with either of mine yet.

the wing feathers seemed to be the most tender for my boy. All others i was able to rub between the fingers but forget trying to get near the wing feathers.
