Twitter, 3yo greencheek conure..Paco 15yo Orangewing Amazon.
I never know how far to push these little guys, I dont want to over stress them either.I mean for instance, Twitter seems to handle new adventures quite well. She isnt too scared to go into a new room or go outside etc.
But Paco is more reserved and even a new towel sitting on the kitchen table near his perch can freak him out.

There are a few goals Id like to see accomplished this summer.Id like to see Twitter get used to going outside(flightsuit) and maybe even in the car.
Id like to see Paco take a shower in the bathroom(a very scary place)
And Id like to wheel his cage out onto the front porch to enjoy some sun,(he shivers and shakes in new situations.)

Id like to help my son get his tiel in his flight suit and get him outside too this summer.Although his tiel seems rather open to new situations too without freaking out.

Should I just do it? Is there a protocol for getting them used to new things slowly? I worry too much and always overthink everything.

Just take it slow, if he freaks out immediately just put him back in his cage, let him calm down and try, try again until he gets used to it and if he is good with it, GO FOR IT!!

I've had Max from a baby, and he got used to new things straight away... I never introduced things slowly with him.. He seems to know that if I think it's OK - it's OK...

This will of course be different for a bird who has been traumatized or is a rescue, where you don't know the history... For such a bird I would take it slowly...

Thanks, I know my sons baby tiel is more open to new things. So it my greenie but Paco is much more frightened of anything new.He gets all shivery and shaky and Im afraid I will make him sick if I push too much. But at same time he does need to get used to certain things..Ive always felt like birds were more fragile(mentally) then other animals but maybe its just my imagination.Plus you know growing up we had parakeets and I remember one dying of fright for some reason or the other.
