I am afraid I am not an experienced enough to contribute, but I am very excited about being here. Thanks

Welcome! Don't worry about how experienced you are. There's always something new to learn.

Do you have any birds or are you planning on adding one to your family?

Howdy yourself and a warm welcome to you! Please don't feel bad, all of us were inexperienced once. You are in the right place to learn and enjoy conversation with like minded people. :)

I'm curious too, are you researching a future bird or do you have one?

I am still reading everything I can get my hands on and trying to find an African grey. I am home all the time and I am looking forward to the experience. I am aware that there are strong opinions about rescue vs. buying and even which of the larger parrots are better suited for first birds, so I am taking it all in.

My apologies, I am in Ms. and there does not seem to be a lot of options close to home.

What part of Mississippi ? North, south, east west , it helps us to help you. Are you seeking a baby or are you open to a rehome ? How far are you willing to drive ? Whats your price range ? The members here frequently help one another locate the bird of their dreams, but the more info you provide then the better we can assist you. Good luck and I will help if I can.

We are open to rehome (sp?). I have a two daughters and a very excited wife. I don't know how I forgot my trick dog, Zeek, he is our rat terrier. We are in west ms.

Hi Payton, welcome to the forums.....

Allee's right some of us asked the same questions you are & others of us trolled around & popped up one day so they didn't seem such a newbee, but in the end, we generally are always learning something around here.....

Before you get misled, there are rescue/rehome situations/birds and then there are rescue/rehome situations/birds.....many times you will read an advertisement with the catch-phrase "rescue" heading it, but in reality, it is no more than a sale, with the only recuse/rehome possibly the seller's rescuing/rehoming your $$$.....you need to be careful of some of these ads.....a person who cares for their African grey or other bird, but pricey birds especially, will usually have some type of veterinarian history (if only because of the value of the bird) on the bird (check those histories out)...a person with no history on their bird, could very well be a bird flipper, with the bird ending up being a serious money pit, very quickly.....

Checkout petfinder.com for potential birds close to you...some may come with cages, but not always, then, someone around here will probably see this thread & may be able to help you out.....

Good luck.....

It seems there is something new that I learn every day here, which is only one of the reasons I love this forum so:)
Looking forward to hearing what you decide on about whether to get a baby or a rehome:) I am so glad you are doing your research before taking that step:)
