Mushka CAG 5 years old
I'm a 37 year old single dad of a soon to be 16 year old daughter. I had conures and a quaker before I became a dad, but I haven't had birds in years because I didn't have the time. Seeing as my daughter is very much a teenager and wants less and less to do with me, I finally after years of wanting another bird got an African Grey. I was going to go with something smaller but after visiting the local shop/rescue I fell in love with Mushka. I was one of the only people she liked so it worked out well. She has been with me at home for almost 2 months and things are going way better than I could have hoped, so I thought I would join a good forum to get help if I need it and to look at fun bird stuff. And as a side note, her first owner was a young Russian fellow so I might need help finding out if some of the stuff she says in Russian is cursing.... Nice to meet everyone!

Here is a link to some of Mushka's chatter for fun: [ame="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Ekdgt2zyr8&t=1s"]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Ekdgt2zyr8&t=1s[/ame]

Welcome.
Beautiful bird. Sounds like the original owner had a bad cough.

Our CAG sneezes more than it coughs. It has not learned "bless you" yet.

Her ability to sound exactly like what she’s mimicking is AMAZING. The little dog barking cracks me up - I have a Chihuahua and her bark is spot on. Especially the lower toned woof. They do that when they have mostly stopped barking but they wanna her that last word in. She’s wonderful! Welcome to the forums. [emoji2]

Welcome! She’s beautiful :).

Welcome to you and Mushka!! Beautiful bird, you'll find Congo Greys are extraordinarily intelligent and skilled mimics of voices/sounds.

Thanks for the warm welcome. Mushka barked before she got to me, but her chihuahua bark is her favorite because my daughters chihuahua barks every time someone walks down the street.... The coughing is actually me. About a week after I got Mushka I got a very bad upper respiratory infection, and I am still coughing quite a bit. She also has picked up "Hey Rivers!"(me calling my daughter) my squeaky front door, and my cell phone ring that I know of. Had no idea that Grey's picked stuff up so fast. I have no idea how large her vocabulary is because she says something I haven't heard all the time.

Two months is long past the "honeymoon" period for a well-adjusted parrot, so Mushka is clearly comfortable in your home. Being "chosen" by a bird bodes very well for the relationship! They have a unique talent for stringing words together in context, so don't be surprised as her vocabulary expands.

I love how her first barks turned from "woof" into "woo" tee hee

I adore greys, you'll have quite the adventures. It's awesome to hear how relaxed she's become with you!

I've got a cold at the moment and I'm wondering if Remi will learn my rather nasty cough too :\

Welcome to the forums, looking forward to hearing more about mushka!

A warm welcome to you and Mushka! Thank you for sharing the lovely diva's video! African Greys are amazing, enjoy the journey.

She’s a beauty
Congratulations & best of luck to you both on this new chapter. :)
