OMG, I came so close to decapitating my little Gizmo today. Normally I have her inside her cage while Walter is out, because I just don't trust what that beak could do to another bird. Well, Walter, being the avid jumper that he is, jumped off my shoulder towards Gizmo's cage. I thought that Gizmo was clearly inside her cage, but she was in the process of coming out. Instinctively I pushed her door closed, but it was at the same time that she was poking her head above the door. Pop! it went into the back of her head as she gave out a squawk.

My heart went into palpitations as I gathered her up to make certain she was okay. At first she was quiet, which alarmed me even further, thinking that she was going to suddenly keel over in my hand.

THANK GOD she's okay!!! I can't stop giving her scritches and kisses. I'm completely traumatized by the thought of what could have happened to my very first baby.

OMG I started tearing! So relieve she is ok! I say give her a special treat and all the cuddles she wants.

Yikes!! You must have gotten such a big fright!! I am happy she is ok. You will have to give extra treats and cuddles to make up (actually just to make yourself feel better ;) I'm sure she won't even give it another thought)

glad she is okay!! this calls for lots of treats and snuggles!!

oh wow, that was close!....glad he's ok, and you are too :)

That is so scary! Those near misses remind us all how quickly weird things can happen. Glad everything is ok. What a relief. I would probably sit and cry once it was all over, just from the stress.

Thank goodness Gizmo is okay! With all the scritches and treats I know you are giving her after that scare, she may be throwing herself into the door:)

Thanks everyone. Needless to say, Gizmo's been getting a LOT of attention. I've been an absolute mess all day. My son kept saying that she was okay, but I kept looking for 'that sign' for hours on end.

So glad that Gizmo is ok. Plenty of treats and cuddles and all will be ok. :)

So glad that Gizmo is still doing well and that nothing has shown up:)

That's scary. Whew thank goodness everything's okay!

Robin my Red Bellied parrot has a square clamshell style carrier. Imagine an old style suitcase flat on it's side, where in order to close it, the top shuts down onto the bottom half. Once a long time ago, Robin's little head was in the way when (somehow) I let the top slam down. It hit him on the head HARD!! It made a loud cracking noise! He was fine. To this day, I think that the ONLY reason he is still alive is because he was not meant to go then. It was not his time. It's the only explanation I have.

Accidents do happen in a blink of an eye. I'm just SO grateful that this one didn't result in it becoming Gizmo's time.

I'm so pleased Gizmo is ok. I almost sat on jasmine once and was only her tiny muffled squawk that stopped my putting my full weight on her. Now when she's out I always check the settee before sitting!!

Glad Gizmo is okay I nearly had a heart attack reading the post
Accidents happen so quickly we always have to be on top of the game, so to speak
Glad it had a happy ending.
