OMG, I came so close to decapitating my little Gizmo today. Normally I have her inside her cage while Walter is out, because I just don't trust what that beak could do to another bird. Well, Walter, being the avid jumper that he is, jumped off my shoulder towards Gizmo's cage. I thought that Gizmo was clearly inside her cage, but she was in the process of coming out. Instinctively I pushed her door closed, but it was at the same time that she was poking her head above the door. Pop! it went into the back of her head as she gave out a squawk.
My heart went into palpitations as I gathered her up to make certain she was okay. At first she was quiet, which alarmed me even further, thinking that she was going to suddenly keel over in my hand.
THANK GOD she's okay!!! I can't stop giving her scritches and kisses. I'm completely traumatized by the thought of what could have happened to my very first baby.
